A Tale in the Desert prepares for its ninth iteration

Aside from being a social/crafting MMO with absolutely no combat, A Tale in the Desert’s biggest claim to fame is its sporadic reboot of the entire game. That’s right, the studio performs a full wipe of all progress so that a new “Telling” may begin. The game’s current eighth Telling began last year and is preparing to wind down in preparation for the start of Tale 9 in late August.

“It’s been a fantastic 18 months and the great news is that Tale 9 will soon be upon us,” Desert Nomad Studios said. “For the first time, the end of a Tale and the start of the next will be on the same day! Tale 8 Amnesty will take place on the 24th and 25th of August, with an AMA with the developers across both days in game and on Discord. We can’t wait to share with you some great secrets from the Tale that have been missed!”

As characters, progression, and items do not transfer between Tellings, everyone will start from scratch when Tale 9 begins. If you want to get in on the ground floor of this reboot, you can go ahead and reserve your character name for it now and learn more about this fascinating MMO from our Game Archaeologist column.
