Here’s something fun for the Final Fantasy XIV players wondering about a lore-appropriate name for a Viera: If you changed the character but haven’t changed the name yet, her existing name is technically lore-accurate. Yes, that’s one of the revelations from the new naming conventions for both the Viera and the Hrothgar. Viera tend to be given a “forest” name when they are born, but many of them choose to discard it upon leaving and using a different “city” name with other races. So “Slejsa Atoel” and “Alexandra Darby” are not just equally lore-appropriate names; they’re equally appropriate names for the same character.

Hrothgar names are somewhat similar to understand, except insofar as the clan split doesn’t work like many others do and thus creates a difference in naming. Hrothgar surnames determine clan membership, with the Hellions having surname for their particular group’s queen while the Lost have one indicating that she has passed away. So now you’ll know more about how these races are named, no doubt welcomed by the community even if it arrives somewhat after the initial launch.
