TERA overhauls quest flow and rewards significantly with its latest patch, Skywatch: Antiquities

The Skywatch: Antiquities patch for TERA is making some big changes to the structure of the game even before you get to the endgame. Several previous main story quests are being moved into sub-stories, numerous quest rewards have been adjusted, level ranges have been changed… in short, players should expect a different flow to leveling through the game. For that matter, they should expect a different set of rewards in terms of armor and weaponry, which have also been significantly updated.

A number of dungeons are also getting brought back, while solo versions of several story-linked dungeons have been added with the option for players to progress quests through them. Merchant NPCs have also had their stocks improved with a variety of new items for player convenience, meaning that the overall experience of playing the game should be faster, more rewarding, and more efficient. It’s a pretty big structural update; check out the full list of patch notes to get an idea of the shape of it.

game was terrible before, I don’t see how these changes are making it any better. The game is old as shit, it’s never been what I would consider “good”. Devs really trying hard to milk this title for everything they can.

Story quests can now only be completed via the solo mode dungeons. The avatar weapon system was also removed; gear now drops from mobs with random properties again. Unused gear can be dismantled into weapon/armor relics that are now used for enchanting (100% success prior to level 65) along with some gold (rewards have been adjusted to provide more gold). This supplants the previous feedstock/alkahest enchanting (which also did not have a gold cost) used during leveling.

The reason for doing this is the new gear set (which has three different rarities that can be equipped from level 68+ and will overlap some of the existing gear tiers while also surpassing the existing high tier gear) that was released in Korea the other day where enchanting works in a similar fashion (just with different mats, more gold, lower success rates, and where failed enchants can damage that piece requiring it to be repaired before it can be re-equipped/enchanted again) supplanting the existing item XP based format with all the different types of enchanting materials.

“The avatar weapon system was also removed…”

You mean the weapon system that helped players level?
