Last night, Blizzard dropped Diablo III’s next big thing on the test server. Yes, Blizzard remembered Diablo III is a going concern, and a fun one at that, and pumped out 2.6.6 and the complete season 18 on the PTS. Testing will run a week, so there’s plenty of time for players to check it out in advance, properly buffed up with increased drops to help testers get geared quickly. ‘Course, you could also just copy over an existing toon.

According to the patch notes, players should be aware of new seasonal buffs from level 1, a new legendary gem, crafting tweaks, and new items.

“There are additional specific notes below, but broadly for 2.6.6, we wanted to introduce a handful of new item powers targeted at two audiences: (1) certain classes with long-standing requests for balance/quality of life adjustments and (2) the broader player base for experimenting with Kanai’s Cube. This means fewer class-specific new additions, but more additions that everyone has an opportunity to play with. We also experimented with making some of the craftable sets from Haedrig more appealing for fresh level 70’s or players looking to maximize their farming runs. We hope to see some interesting new theorycrafting and tactics out of 2.6.6 and can’t wait to see what the community does with this new loot!”

Yes, Blizzard remembered Diablo III is a going concern…

The game has gotten a new season and content update every 2-4 months since 2014.

“Content” needs to be used VERY loosely.

Mechanic adjustments – check
Bug fixes – check
Balance adjustments – Check

Content? No… not really. A new visual map for a Rift being called content when it brings no actual new gameplay, story, mechanics, classes, or systems is almost enough to make someones grandmother stand up and slap them.

Blizzard could have been doing so many more cool things with each season. Their biggest creative minds apparently could only think up “lets double the amount of goblins that show up!”

Basically, when it comes to the creative “content” side of things, its the least amount of effort possible… But from the developer number tweaking and balancing side, a lot of work usually goes into each season.

Compared to other ARPG’s, like PoE and even Grim Dawn, D3 has has VERY little new content added since its last expansion which was in 2014

They never promised or treated D3 like it was a game that would get free or paid expansions indefinitely.

Patches that come with new seasons come with new legendary items/effects and seasonal players usually get special buffs or modifiers that all mix up the D3 endgame. This is more than most Blizzard titles ever got (and old Blizz games got a lot of post-release love) and is a lot for a game that is not a “service”. This game was released before everything wanted you to spend money on it forever.

It doesn’t matter, Blizzard used to be the trend setters, now they let smaller companies make them look like chumps.

The legendary gem is important, because as i understand it gives the player the same buff of current season 17, so instead of looking for a set of 2 rings you can have the gem on any ring or necklace.

I’m interested, i’ll play season 18.

It’s not the same buff, but it’s similar. LON is 750% damage and 4% damage reduction per ancient. The buff from the new gem is 3.75% damage and 2% damage for every legendary, the buff is doubled for Ancients at gem level 25.

Am definitely interested and will be playing, i like how they are adding some power that’s front loaded and helps throughout the leveling process.
