No Man’s Sky: Beyond arrives on August 14

Beyond what, exactly?

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of No Man’s Sky: Beyond, your wait is almost over. The next big update for the game is going live on August 14th, and it’s an update so large that the studio loves to claim it’s functionally three major updates in one. Then again, when the game is adding full-on VR support and much more robust multiplayer, you can really claim that the update contains as much as you like. That’s a big post-launch update, after all.

The biggest focus at the moment is the game’s VR experience, which obviously does play nice with the multiplayer side of things but also enhances the isolation and quiet of the main game. You can check out videos for both the release date and the VR update below, but you should expect more information about the Beyond update to arrive during the next two weeks before launch.

VR functionality is largely meaningless to me, not because I don’t find VR utterly appealing because I do but it still is not reasonably priced. No matter how appealing I refuse to pay console price for a peripheral lol

I suspect most of this update will be making it fully multiplayer in the way it was originally intended but that again although nice is largely meaningless to me in this instance as none of my friends play NMS except me… SO i’m hoping there will be some actual features and content in this update too for me to sink my teeth into.

I bought this game on sale last year and I’m really glad I did. After it’s very rocky launch, It became an Amazing game & I cant wait for this next update.

I’m not a VR user, but I’m eagerly awaiting for the multiplayer changes and the “third pillar”.

Me too. I hope it’s a good one, they have built up a lot of positive hype for the game and their updates, hopefully this one will succeed as well!

It will be more fun because if your friend have VR he/she can play with you :D

So stoked for this! I recently finished (one of) the main storylines and popped into Eissentam. I’ve been waiting for Beyond to drop before I start rebuilding any of my stuff.

What the heck is the third pillar, though?!

This has been bugging me too….it’s less than 2 weeks till release and they still haven’t said? Whats up with that? There’s keep your cards close to your chest and then there’s locking them in a safe and dropping it in the ocean…

Unless it was ment to be vulkan support? I assumed it would be a gameplay thing though…

It will be gameplay feature, Vulkan is part of VR and major optimization.

agemyth 😩

My body is not ready for the inevitable VR sickness this will induce (normal for current vr tech and game design), but my mind is ready to dabble.

After the novelty wears off I can see myself doing base-building and social interaction stuff in VR, but the larger scale exploration and combat stuff will probably be best on the normal old monitor.

How many games have you tried? Some make me feel ill while others are fine, if you can teleport instead of walking I’ll prolly be ok even though I hate it from a gameplay perspective all the games where you can walk make my head spin pretty quickly. :(

VR is optional ALSO you can play as non-VR with VR players :) (source is official sites blog post about VR)

VR ready means at least 80 fps as the bottom of the scale to prevent motion sickness.

Looking forward to this. I’ve had a lot of fun with this game after buying it during a Steam sale. Should be interesting to see how it works in VR. Fingers crossed.

Nick, would love to try again. Back at Mythic we were working on a game called Imperator but I killed it because I wasn’t happy with the progress, but I would like to try again.

Mr. McSleaz, I can’t disagree with that. :)
