Check out the updated Worgen and Goblin models from World of Warcraft’s 8.2.5 test server

Look better.

It’s high time for the Worgen and Goblins to get some face lifts in World of Warcraft, and that’s one of the big updates with the game’s current testing of patch 8.2.5. But how do the new models actually look? We could just say “better” and leave it at that, or you could take a look at a full set of comparisons for both the Goblin models and the Worgen models on Wowhead, including the removal of the female Worgen’s awful permanent-snarl-face. That alone is an improvement.

There are other changes with more of a basis in content for the patch, of course; for example, there’s the new Honeyback Hive faction which leads to the long-awaited bee mount, which players have finally been able to start exploring on the test server. Or, heck, maybe you’d just be happy with a character selection screen that includes a faction icon and class name coloring. Minor improvements are still improvements.

Aside from some strangely fugly death knights the worgen look way better but even if they are less polygonal looking those new goblin girls look way worse.

This wouldn’t be so bad if they had sliders for the faces like TERA style. /bleh

Oh wow, the female goblins look much better if you click through and actually look at them in 3D. They look really weird in those flat 2D spreads.
I really like the new Worgen not that I was ever going to play one anyway.

I thought the same thing about the worgen pictures. The picture look weird, but in the model viewer, they look fine.

New female Worgen underwear covers more skin (fur?) This is BS self-censorship and I won’t stand for it. Sign my internet petition /s

As with all the updated models WoD brought, the best part of these updates is probably the new animations and expressions. Female Worgen don’t look like they are wearing heavy eyeliner and eye shadow anymore which is a change I like but not all will. I wish they had cool eyes like the males.

Female goblin faces look like they were designed to look like pretty lady faces fitted for goblin heads rather than just feminine goblin faces. Not sure if the distinction I’m trying to make there is as clear as it is in my head though. They look less like little green monsters and more like little green people. The monster look is probably more faithful to the fantasy look Warcraft was originally based on, but the people look is generally more appealing in a character creation situation.

Not 100% sure on the new female goblin faces. The old ones aren’t stellar but the new ones look less differentiated from each other. Have to check it out if I’m able to once it goes live.

I think their less differentiated because they don’t want to put to much time into them until the see how people react to them. I think I like them better but their is no denying that the new ones are more human looking then the old ones. Weather that’s good or bad I’m not sure.

A few of the female goblin faces are identical except for the eyebrows which are covered up by the hairstyle chosen in wowhead’s face comparison image. Who knows if these eyebrows will come with more face varieties by the time this hits the live servers.

I hope Blizzard releases dev blogs by the artists behind these updates like they did with the WoD updates. I would like to read what the artists intent is and all that.

The old ones had a lot of character, that seemed entirely spaded and neutered with the new updates, IMO. Now I am starting to crave a “Classic” server when I can roll the old (current) Goblin models.

Also see: Fixing something that wasn’t broken. /sigh

You may be able to client side mod the goblin appearances back once modders create the replacement files for the client

Utakata

…however, if other clients are able to see those changes, the pigtails would likely receive an indefinite banhammer all ways to Sunday from that game. So no, I don’t want to risk it. :(

They can’t, it’s clientside so only your client is modified.

Well…thanks for the suggestion. But I rather see my characters where everyone else sees them as intended and work from there. Or I would find this exercise a bit pointless. Sorry. :(

I think female worgen are a lost cause.

Agreed, they have never looked quite right and still don’t. They need an entirely new model.

I’ve neither on my new server atm, and maybe never will, i dunno, i’ll check them both out on my og server once they go live.

I find that they’re try to “humanize” them too much. They should be bestial, like a werewolf. It’s a curse, a plague that robs you of sanity. I find them a bit too…”disney”, i think would be the term.
