Final Fantasy XIV’s Live Letter promises changes coming for Ninja, Samurai, Summoner, and desynthesis

Do you feel like Ninja in Final Fantasy XIV is currently putting out way too little DPS for the amount of effort required to play the job? The good news is that the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE agrees with that statement and is working on fixes. Ninja’s numbers are being adjusted in the upcoming patch 5.08, but in the longer term, Ninja is getting bigger fixes including a change to the way that you use Ninjutsu altogether, with the skill no longer being used between GCD attacks. The overall flow of button presses is being adjusted, which is also being addressed for Summoner. Samurai, meanwhile, is going to be getting some potency adjustments and tweaks to Meditation.

Crafting changes are also being planned for the near future alongside the Restoration of Ishgard, including recipe adjustments for some overly demanding of materials, plans to make overmelding easier, and perhaps most importantly the removal of Desynthesis skill to remove the need to skill it up separately. Check out the full summary of answers in the official thread; there’s no timeline yet on 5.08, but it should be clear that player concerns are being heard and acted upon.

No mention of housing and the fact that only a very tiny percent of the player base gets to experience such an important feature?

Ninjutsu/Mudra not being required between GCDs is going to be a huge sweeping change, really nice to see them doing it in 5.1 and not have to wait 2 years for big fixes like they did before with MCH.

SE really does a good job of staying in touch and informed, while still seeming capable of staying out of the fray. Well played, SE.

Helps that they play their own game beyond a casual level as well.

The Ninja changes sounds nice. Reason I didn’t touch Ninja, was just to many button to remember. It just felt so busy for no reason just to be complex for complexity sake.

Yeah the Ninjutsu mechanic was both interesting and kind of overly complicated to the point of being a turnoff. Not a fan of having to memorize every single pattern and which situation it needs to be used for.

Not to mention it’s very punishing if you screw up.

Not at all a fan of the murdra mechanic.

After much pain I figured out I only used 4 or 5 of the nine combinations and only two regularly (Huton and Dotan). I’ve got my hotbar setup so that the murdras are lined up so that pressing them in order does one and reverse the other.

I completely agree that it’s way too punishing if you miskey or the keys don’t register (I’ve had to slow down on occasion).

We’ll see how they address it. Had a lot of fun with the MCH changes.

Ninja really needs some love. Yeah AST has some issues but NIN felt like it got left behind in Heavensward and only carried forward out of obligation and they just didn’t know what to do with it.
