There’s not really such a thing in modern World of Warcraft as an RP-PvP server, since the current expansion basically did away with PvP servers as a thing in the first place. But they were a classic element of the game, and players were a bit disappointed to learn that World of Warcraft: Classic would feature only the initial launch server types (RP-PvP was introduced in patch 1.8). Good news to those disappointed, though; after seeing feedback, Blizzard has opted to open an RP-PvP server for the Classic version of the game.
Precise information will be posted ahead of name reservation on August 12th, so players can coordinate with their friends to make sure that everyone is on the same server (although with a minority of RP-PvP options, it seems that one will be easy to find). Good news for those who enjoy exploring character motivations and having open wars with the other faction whenever both sides meet in the larger world!
I hope hunters get eyes of the beast back and I can send my pet into lowbie towns!
And my warlock will want to summon in that giant infernal pet too
Yep, I’ll be treating this server like I would any other FFA sandbox. That is, staying the *Bleep!* away from it. >.<
Will they do any enforcement of RP? If people start in on politics in general will they get a 24 hour ban or something?
I guess hoping someone will implement an immersion server someday is to much.
I’ll be there for sure.
I predict this will cap at like 10k players max, but its also going to be the server with the smallest drop off compared to the rest.
Ah, think I’ll go RP-PVE, a mass a small fortune, then pay to transfer to a RP-PVP realm.
I didn’t think you could transfer from a PVE to a PVP server. Am I wrong?
Maybe. /shrug
I thought server transfers were a pretty staple money maker for them, maybe there was a lock on pve to pvp.
I’m sure by the time I’m ready they will allow it or a TBC server will be getting ready to launch. 😀
Definitely will not be going rp-pvp during the questing era of my toon’s life, ha!
Probably what I’ll go with.
Role-playing on a PVP server? I don’t get it.
If you played on Earthen Ring it would. It’s an entirely different culture of players so much so, it actually made wow playable to me, of interest to me, a game i can get into, it’s that much better. What i assume many expect is the same but full on realm vs realm.
Then you do not understand what RP is. Real RP is using the lore as if it were real to your character. The Alliance and Horde are at war with each other. Not everyone is into digital cosplay inside of Inns and are able to make RP far more real in a game.
Don’t belittle RP-PvErs to make a point. The RP community is small enough as it is, without people being dicks to each other.
You gank while spewing out a Shakespeare sonnet.
Get paid to gank egregious known people.
It is basically a server that is friendly to people who wish to RP within the war context, and experience the open world PvP. There’s actually quite a few people who want those particular conditions.
Personally, the primary experiences I see from those are people who are doing the usual PvP pick on the weak attempts, and as such there’s no RP luster there.
Emerald Dream had several wargroups, bounty hunters and such. There is a call for RP-PvP.
Hmm?
I thought about it and yea, i’m going RP-PVP. I hear people talk about how awesome pvp servers are, and i know that feeling. Although i’m no pvp player, i have dabbled in other mmorpg’s from time to time and yes i so love the suspense the whole gamut of extra layers it does add.
I do need to find out or if anyone knows, how does it work exactly cause one thing i never thought about here is that it’s probably not all out free for all, but more realm vs realm style as in horde vs alliance?
OK read up on it all, and yeah horde vs alliance, i’m in!!!
I’m on Earthen Ring which is an RP server and went 100% Horde this time and yeah i could never run out of great things to say about this server, in many ways made wow for me. I can’t imagine why people would even bother playing on any other server.
But it’s not pvp, well in many ways for me it is as i’m constantly flagging myself for pvp, i played wow on and off for 15 years 100% Alliance, well take a guess, yep you know it, for example i’ll need repair whatever i need services cool there is Honor Hold go fly in there and take care of… DEAD! FLAGGED! and for some reason i’m always surprised for a moment and go WTF!!! lmao
ALLIANCE?
For the Horde!
Aw yisss.
Jaina can come too,and Jaina’s mom.
Actually i don’t know, i’m still trying to figure out what class to pick, then decide faction, which may be decided for me depending on class.
I know what old school games are like and for the first time ever i’m really into retail wow.
I’m not planning on spending tons of time on classic and running a mix of alts isn’t something i really want to invest much time into (atm), i mainly want to make the right class decision above all else.
Kinda dancing between, Warlock and Mage; same as my current retail favs. It’s one nice thing about retail, takes no time to run up a bunch of alts and get a good feel for it, classic is a considerable time investment only to find out, meh not for me.
OG wow, i had a few alts but Pally was my main most of the time as it worked well playing with the fam (kids), and to perfectly honet i loved the class, just i’m in this whole caster pahase it looks like artm :)
It is Hoard vs. Alliance. Safe areas in major towns, but open PvP outside of the major towns. Always flagged. Not full loot. It is really pretty much the same experience as when you flag up on a normal server for a big old Tarren Mill / Southshore PvP battle.
Hey thanks, i didn’t know that, i just found it was H vs A, this RP-PVP sounds good.
Is rp pvp less toxic? I usually find that to be the case.
Usually so since GOOD RP requires a little more forethought and awareness of ones partners feelings and hopefully leads to less ‘YUR DED! *teabag* HUR HUR!”
YMMV also. This is my opinion.
I’ve not been hugely interested in moving back to WOW but as someone who has a bit more of an appreciation of a good pvp team this DID pique my interest.
Doesn’t it all kind of depend on RP rules being enforced though? Otherwise you end up with people purposefully going to troll RP players. Does Blizzard enforce RP rules or is it basically just a server tag?
You are going to get that no matter what.
The dirty little secret that most trolls don’t understand is, Don’t name your character ‘MadBallz MagaMcYolostan’.
The rp’ers can usually figure out you aren’t really serious.
Just a server tag to inform folks that want that sort of thing available where to go. Not enforced by Blizzard in any way.
I have seen them force users to rename silly character names in the past for this server type.
Depends. One of my favourite RP moments, was talking about past glory and war with guildies on Howling Fjord, while on my Goblin DK.
I think if the will is there, the RP will be good.
IF you get people who are actually looking for that experience more than not, yes. Sadly, there tends to be a lot of those who are just there to pick on the RP people too.
