World of Warcraft provides a look at various class buffs and nerfs, hands out a free level 100 boost to players

We’ve got a couple of (likely) talking points for players of World of Warcraft to mull over, and if my observation of such discussions is any indicator, these are some pretty hot topics: class spec buffs and nerfs, and whether people get a free thing or not. Get your comment typin’ fingers ready.

On the subject of class adjustments, it looks like another round of them are incoming. Most of these adjustments fall on the buff side of the scale, particularly for Restoration Shamans, Destruction Warlocks, Arms Warriors, and Frost and Unholy Death Knights. On the nerf side of things, Outlaw Rogues are getting whomped with a reduction of 30% damage to nearby enemies from Blade Flurry and a nerf to the Keep Your Wits About You Azerite trait.

As for the free thing, people who log in to the Battle.net Launcher are apparently being randomly greeted with a free level 100 character boost in celebration of WoW’s 15th anniversary. According to one response which features a GM’s reply to a support ticket, this is being offered to lapsed players of the game, though there are a couple of reports of people who are unsubbed who didn’t receive such a gift. Your mileage may appear to vary here.

Excellent tip! Boost was waiting for me right there in the launcher. Haven’t played in ages, and feel no compulsion to, but free stuff is free

I received an email about the boost, then realized it was the wrong email address?

Things back then, you know you’re using emails all over the place so i guess at some point i made a wow account on that email address, i kinda wonder what i have on that account but not dropping 15 bones.

I know both my boys accounts are not that as they have played, maybe the ex but pretty sure she used her own email, plus she dropped out of wow long long time ago only thing she plays is phone games from what i hear, so i dunno, then thinking well… lmao maybe boost another toon on it as in second account eek!

Then i’m thinking i already have way more than i can handle in wow atm, my mage fought for top slot but that damn warlock fought back hard and is now 118 (tied atm with my alliance life) and i’ve not even stepped into bfa as yet, which is kinda fucked tbh, but i’ve been uncovering so much i was unaware of in trying to go for my class mount like the class hall quest and some other various points of interest i was unaware of, like a “things i wish i knew before i started playing”.

My mage is still in full contention for top slot, which got me thinking that sometimes your main paves the way for alts, in that an alt may become a main as so much more went well, right, correct with it. Only in the early 80’s i know there will many things i’ll do different in the approach to cap.

Kinda glad i started this whole new life on the horde side, and only played on and off again less than seriously since launch, its keeping me busy that’s for sure and all feels fresh, i know so many people are burnt the f out it but whatever, still boat loads of players whom aren’t.

I mean people say one run and over i find that when i’m in a group i nearly every single time get an invite to continue for more, and time walking omg i must have dome at least if not more than a dozen runs in a row.

Steady tank and heals and swapped out only one dps they had to go, but i’ve never run these ones ever, so on the pinnacle man this is where i met them i died so much lmao, by the time we finished f’in had that run down to a mofo science.

I even got into for the first time ever streaming well the MDI had that rolling while hammering dungeons, lmao, was pretty good, can’t wait to hit the motherlode.

I dunno man i gotta say retail is pretty good game, it’s kinda sad many are so burnt out on it, but that tends to happen when you played the same game for too long i suppose and as far as classic yea i can’t see that biting atm, but never know, going to make an undead mage, and back to retail for the time being.

I have the alts overtaking the main problem in MMOs as well. I remember WoW guild members asking, “what’s your main?” I would always reply, “I don’t have a main. I play them all, and there are usually 2 or 3 around the same level.”

This is much harder to do in BDO, although I do have 3 that are awakened. It is hard for me to remember all the combos.

I hear ya, started to click with my mage but i love my warlock ugggg, lol :)

BUT the mage, just love balancing the mana pool it’s quite an art with spectacular results when you get good, when your rhythm is in tune with the balance, it’s all flowing i more than triple other players dps, miss a beat and well yea not so much.

Almost like the main is your “live and learn”, the scout and makes the mistakes (kinda), all i know is mage will be doing many things earlier than the warlock was rather late to the party for, so to speak.

Lapsed a couple of years ago. Nothing in the launcher, nor at https://us.account.blizzard.com/gifts/ .

I’ve never actually gotten *any* freebies from Blizzard, and I’ve been playing since beta! Jerks!

I just checked my long-unsubbed account for kicks and didn’t get one, either. However, I think if I ever get BfA that it will come with a free one, and to be honest I seldom use those anyway. I’m one of those players that actually likes to level in MMOs, and will usually roll an alt and start again with another class after I hit cap with a main.

I’m going back for Classic anyhow, but it was interesting to check my account, just in case.

– Decides to do a level squish in the future, as if following Classic recipe for a better leveling process.

– Offers almost leveled up characters before Classic launch.

This level of idiocy isn’t lost on me.

I mean. if theres one thing you can count on with wow, regardless of classic or retail versions, its that the dev team has absolutely no unifying vision whateoever

theyre throwing shit against the wall and hoping something sticks.

theyre throwing shit against the wall and hoping something sticks.

That’s mostly how their xpacs work.

Reader
Nathan Aldana

Yep. problem is even if it does stick they toss it out next expac.

Reader
Bruno Brito

If they actually reduce xp to 60 next xpac, then the next one makes it to 70, i’m going to lose my shit.

If they fix tradeskills to make them relevant again, remove level scaling, replace what we lost from our artifact weapons, add in unique items to replace the mushy meaningless of azerite armour and make it so the regular dungeons are not a meaningless aoe fest…then I might play retail again.

Having played Classic recently, it really makes it painfully obvious what has been lost from the game. Its like vanilla wow was a quality steakhouse, the waiters were dicks but the food was mostly enjoyable. Over the years, the menu changed to add more and more cheap fast food options. Up until a year ago, the food was forgettable but it was still tasty. Now, its no longer a steakhouse, the neon sign is busted and the waiters spit in your food but people still go there because of misplaced brand loyalty and nostalgia for something that no longer exists.

Is it August 27th yet?

I can get behind and see some of your points, but tradeskills are relevant. Still one of the most powerful methods of making gold and many of the crafting professions offer BiS items for you to craft for yourself. Level scaling is also one of the best systems they’ve introduced in a long time. You can complete zones without out leveling it (so you actually finish it, reap the more powerful rewards and see the whole story). Truly, it is a bandaid to a bigger problem – the leveling system needs to be restructured to accommodate 120 levels or there needs to be a level squish (which we know is planned).

Professions are a little lacking in the qualitative feel they had in vanilla, but are very impactful as of 8.2, and the level scaling system offers a lot of player agency in how and where you want to level.

Could not disagree more about level scaling. It makes an already bland leveling experience infinitely more bland. Zero sense of danger, no variation in tactics needed because everything is an extremely similar meatsack of hitpoints that offers no challenge. If you have level variations, it creates a sense of danger and allows you to challenge yourself a little. I had the same issue in ESO, level scaling just makes everything intensely dull to me.

As for professions, I am glad they work for you but on the few characters I bothered leveling them up on I saw nothing that I could make that was remotely useful to me. I have zero interest in making gold any more as there is nothing I want to buy, the game literally throws everything at you for free.

Reader
Gooty

I assume you’re talking about the 100-120 zones scaling and not the older ones that do have them broken up by level a bit more?

I claimed the boost, but shall never use it as I will never play modern WoW.

Reader
Sarah Cushaway

None for me. Not that I care much since BFA is such a hot pile of garbage that I don’t even want to play, but…yeah, no boost here.

Reader

I feel as though since Classic is mere 15 days away, no matter what they do with Retail, it just doesn’t matter at all anymore.

They should rename Classic WoW to “World of Warcraft” and Retail WoW to “Retail” so people don’t get confused and come play the real WoW.

Reader
Bannex

On the flip side I’ve been playing since launch and I have zero intent on playing classic. Honestly, I think bfa is more enjoyable.

So uhhh… nipples I guess?

Reader
Nathan Aldana

shit like this is why i would never in a thousand years play classic, the smug of classic fans is like listening to an evangelical talk

Great, if thats fun for you, go ham at it. Doesnt really change my observation that I;ve never met a classic server on any MMo that wasnt full of the most smug , self-righteous people I’ve ever known.

Blimey, probably says more about you than anything else…

Reader
Nathan Aldana

That i dont believe the world was magical and bright and cheerful and nothing was bad ever when I was 15 years old?

Cuz in my experience, thats what the average classic server is for. People who insist of viewing the past with rose tinted glasses

hurbster
Reader

No-one who actually played classic is going in with rose-tinted glasses. We know what to expect from the game. Even people who played the illegal servers were not really getting Classic. Just people who don’t like what the game has become.

I see no ‘smug’here. Well not from the Classic fans anyway.

Reader
Nathan Aldana

yeah, nothing smug at all about “hurr hurr they should rename classic to world of warcraft and wow to wow retail so people dont dont get confused and play the real wow”

Nope, not smug at all.

Reader
Bruno Brito

No-one who actually played classic is going in with rose-tinted glasses.

I’m willing to bet a lot of the Classic pop will actually play knowing what to expect, but a lot of them are: Stream-followers, nostalgics and people who complain about the retail game but cannot level to 30 without realizing clams don’t stack then quit.

You’re talking in absolutes, but you did sound smug. Hell, every time that Asmongold complains about Blizzard not doing “enough end game relevant content”, yet he raids once a week and gets carried, he’s the definition of smug.

Don’t die on this hill.

Reader
Nathan Aldana

yeah, anyone claiming nobody playijng classic has rose tinted glasses has not read a single comment from people demanding classic for years.

Reader
Bruno Brito

Because dancing and talking is mostly the top all interaction you can have with people.

I’ve had more socialization in Flyff.

Yeahhhh…

No.

So saw this, checked as i had considered resub(unsubbed in December)to tool around with an alt and see the new content and then check out classic but yeah, no boot for me so I guess i’ll wait lol.
