No Man’s Sky heads into Beyond today

Not Star Trek.

The latest update to No Man’s Sky is at once the sort of thing that feels more isolating and less so. You can imagine, for example, how lonesome it would feel to load into the game in a VR headset, staring at an empty space devoid of other people. But then you remember that the update allows for 32 people to be playing in the same multiplayer session and interacting with full model display while hanging out on the new social hub of the Space Anomaly, and it at once feels more isolated and more connected than before.

And those are just two of the marquee changes. The patch also adds in Nexus Missions to be taken on with other players together in social settings, new story missions and missions to help new players start their journey, and a new discovery page to make it easier to catalog the things you’ve found. There’s also the new tech tree system along with balance improvements, new traveler NPCs, new alien encounters… there’s a lot more on display in the world, in short. So there’s lots of good stuff for experienced fans, and if you’ve never headed into the darkness of deep space, now seems like the time to try it out.

Oh my I had forgotten how much of a slog the first hour or so of this game can be on hard unless you get lucky. Still I got the ship running on my second try.

I loved this game as a concept but then I saw all the negative feedback at its launch and backed off

I think it has come a long way since then and I am pretty much considering to get it in the near future. After all I love how it combines exploration with everything else

Well it’s currently $30 50% off on gog.

Its not the price tag really

just august and early sept are typically far more busy for me

not sure if I can find the time – then again I can buy it and play it later though

I also bought it years ago when it was marked down and I’m quite happy with my purchase of it. I think that they have done an excellent job recovering from a difficult launch.

From checking out the forums, it seems that the update is very buggy, can crash a lot, and has very poor performance, especially with VR.

However, im noticing a similar trend.

Most people complaining about issues of any kind, seem to already have an existing game save they are playing, with an established character, base, etc.

This may be one of those patches that only goes smoothly if you start a brand new game. Many games will force this… I guess Hello Games felt they had things under more control

I look forward to grabbing this update in September, way too busy to play now.

I’m not having a good time so far on PS4. All my specialist terminals have vanished along with my hyper-wotsit trays. The powering base system seems a real pain too with 1000 condensed carbon keeping a small bio fueler, which seems to power very little, going for less than an hour! 250 carbon only last about 4 minutes. And until you sort your fuel out your storage units and your teleporter will not work!

Steam doesn’t have it yet… or at least I didn’t get it. Seems like a lot of Steam users didn’t get it. Anyone have any idea if they prioritized the update to different platforms?

Apparently the update just went live on Steam a couple minutes ago. 5.8GB download.

How long until gog gets this update?

Not sure steam has this yet so it will be some time before us gog folks see it if past experience is anything to go by.

The snag with the old one, AFAIK, was because the multiplayer was built atop Steamworks, so the devs had to come up with a substitute, and in the meantime had to remove multiplayer from the game.

Now that substitute is already in place, so I would expect the delay to be smaller. Perhaps even far smaller, as in releasing the same day.

For what’s worth, I have it on Steam and haven’t yet received the update. Though I’m eagerly waiting for it.

The single most important change, at least for me: mineral stack size changed from 250 units to 10.000 units.

Second most important change: installed tech components can now be moved around.

These two alone will make the annoying parts of the game far less annoying for me. And there’s a lot of other nice things in the patch notes; I’ll need far less anti-frustration mods with Beyond, to the point I’m now considering a no-mods playthrough.
