Pantheon talks pre-alpha phases and interactive climates in latest newsletter

MMO players keeping an eye on Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen have probably noticed that Visionary Realms has been talking about Project Faerthale for a long time, and that’s because, as the devs put it, it’s “a whopper of a project” that includes an encounter currently being polished for presentation to testers.

“While that’s going on, the team heads back in to finish the rest of Project Faerthale,” VR says in the game’s August newsletter, out today. “Once Project Faerthale is complete and ready to go as a standalone mini-version of Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen, we will head into Pre-Alpha 5. There is still a substantial amount of work ahead and we will keep you as up-to-date as we can as we finish up our milestones. Our goal is to sync PA5 up with a limited approved streamer program, drawing from some of our signups. […] After Pre-Alpha 5, additional Pre-Alpha events may need to be scheduled as we discover new issues and features that need to be addressed; this is something that we simply cannot predict and we will announce any additional testing well in advance. […] Once our Testers inform us that we are in a solid state to move forward, we will schedule Alpha itself—not a minute sooner.”

The newsletter also previews the game’s planned interactive “extreme” climates, including frigid, scorching, toxic, anaerobic, pressure, and windshear, with very specific penalties if players aren’t properly equipped and acclimated to those environments. For example, in frigid climes, players might suffer from frozen lungs, frostbite, or even hypothermia. Your mom says wear a hat and a scarf!

There’s quite a bit more to the newsletter, including a look at the Tohrn Elves, so go give it a peek!
