Guild Wars 1 fan remake posts trailer with Gwen’s flute, Prince Rurik, and plenty of river scale

Fans of the original Guild Wars might remember that this past spring we reported on an amateur game designer named Jomo who was looking to recreate his favorite MMO as a single-player, turn-based game. To do this, Jomo used the RPG Maker toolset to replicate the game world and many of Prophecies’ early quests.

The project has been coming along quite nicely since then, and this past week Jomo posted a demo trailer for the Guild Wars: RPG Maker version. Players will spot familiar locations in the game, such as the Ashford Library, and even bump into Sir Tydus, Gwen, and Prince Rurik.

Check it out below and let us know what you think about this game so far!

I always like to see fan projects showing love for their favorite games.

Having said that I don’t know if this remake makes sense to me. There are certain games that remade certain ways makes sense to me, but what is this project trying to accomplish?

Is it modernizing guild wars? I don’t think so. Is it reviving a lost title? No, guild wars is still live so far as I know. Is it taking something multiplayer only and making it available in a single player form? Not really? When I played guild wars you could pretty much do everything solo with npcs. Is it taking the game back to a time where it was different from its current form? No, its a form the game was never in.

So, neat project but it seems like it has rather limited novelty. Still, props to the creator for the work they put in!

Remake isn’t the right term. In my eyes it is simply a “what if guild wars was a 2d single player rpg with slower combat?”. That’s it really. I am taking the opportunity to inject more lore and unique bits though.

I wonder if Anet will try to put a stop to this?

JOMO

I hope not. I understand if they do of course. I’m trying to be as up front as possible about giving the appropriate credit and absolutely 0 money will be earned from this.

Hopefully they see it as free marketing for GW1 and people will buy that.

I hope not either, I’m just wondering how they will be as a company. I wouldn’t wish them to do so.
