Lord of the Rings Online’s Legendary servers roll out 2011’s Rise of Isengard expansion

For the last week or two, Justin has been nervously playing Lord of the Rings Online’s progression server, convinced that Standing Stone was about to drop another expansion and he wasn’t prepared for it. As it turns out, he was correct, as SSG has pushed out The Rise of Isengard for the Legendary servers today, and you guys have no idea how hard it is not to make a “they’re taking the Hobbits to Isengard” joke right now.

Originally released to production servers back in 2011 (we covered it extensively on Old Massively, of course!), ROI adds the Gap of Rohan, Dunland, and Isengard itself, plus more levels to zip through, the Draigoch raid, class updates, tier 7 crafting, and of course, the Book questline itself.

“The Rise of Isengard expansion has arrived on Anor and Ithil! Journey eastward toward the tower of Orthanc, where an army of Orcs and Uruk-hai make ready for war. Uncover new quests, skills, and traits as you strive to thwart Saruman’s ambition! The level cap on the Legendary Worlds has been increased to 75 as well. Complete Instances in Isengard and the Great River, quest in the Limlight Gorge, and complete the Epic Story. Rewards include an account-wide Hooded Re-purposed Cloak of the White Hand, an account-wide Great River portrait frame, and an account-wide Dispeller of Isengard title.”

How I wish this game got a different purchase model, I’d probably buy it, but as it is, it feels more like pyramid scam.

I’m guessing Bree posted this because Justin is in-game desperately trying to level his way out of Mirkwood (but I gotta say, I liked Mirkwood!).

I liked Mirkwood for most everything other than the actual murkiness. I swear I could see better at night with the lantern than I could during the day.

Also, Was it Mirkwood where they did that first big Minstrel patch that turned them into some of the best DPS in the game for a while? That was fun! :)

That sounds about right. I remember leveling my hobbit Minnie; before that it was it the very opposite of fun (but killing things with a trill of a flute or the moaning of bagpipes never gets old!).

that was the last full expansion i played all the way through before quitting after a marvelous time in that game. there was an area in that expansion i seem to remember having holes in the floor but the floor was still there so you’d just plummet to your death because of the lack of collision. there were some heinous crashes in that expac as well. really hurried stuff. i wonder if that stuff is still there at launch now lol?

Just played through Isengard on the regular servers. Did not run into any issues like that, so maybe it was patched over time.

Nothing would make me happier than if they made a proper Lotro Classic. This abomination is just current Lotro with level caps and slowed xp. Lotro SoA is my all-time favorite game. Playing Classic WOW now because out is the closest thing on the market to SoA.

I think it could have been ok if they’d just worked properly on tuning the content so that it was comparable to the original game. A lot of people went back expecting something similar and instead got 1-2 shot mobs, and people clearing 12 man raids with 2 people.
