Casey Hudson says BioWare still has a ‘big team working on Anthem’

It’s time for a Very Serious Message from BioWare’s Casey Hudson.

OK, it’s not that serious; it’s more like a pep rally for Anthem. Cataclysm is live and still being developed, BioWare knows everyone’s not happy, it’s not giving up on the title, and all will be better in the future if you stick it out. You know the drill.

“I know there’s a lot more work to do to bring out the full potential of the game,” Hudson said. “We have plans for those more fundamental improvements, but they’ll take time. While the team works towards the longer-term vision of the game, they will also continue to deliver updates to features and content.”

The dev letter comes after the abrupt departure of Lead Producer Ben Irving just a few weeks ago. Hudson also talked up SWTOR’s Onslaught expansion (though he doesn’t mention the delay) and teased the upcoming new entry in the Dragon Age franchise.

I mean this is obvious. A small team wouldn’t be able to release an update as huge as Cataclysm. Its scale is comparable to expansions which take couple years to develop for other games/companies.

So it seems we’ll see another update like Cataclysm in the winter.

I could not stand the lore or plot it was a jumbled mess, it’s a shame though combat was very fun, just wish everything else was

Picked up Anthem cheap in July, and found it to be great fun. Love the suit feel and lore and world design. Of course, it probably crashes less now, and they’ve added the new hamster wheel of Cataclysm. Definitely needs more content and areas to explore though. Yet I am still happily playing.

Regardless, it seems to suffer from continuing crucifixion due to hype and expectation.

I still really like the design for the Interceptor in this game. I still don’t understand people who say that the combat is excellent though. At least with the gear I had, powers took forever to recharge, setting off an elemental combo would only one-shot the most basic minions (and only if they had no shields) and I’d usually have to reload my pistols at least once to kill the same basic minions.

Maybe it just didn’t click for me. Maybe I just got burned out on the “Tombs of the time-sink” quests, I don’t know. I do hope that Bioware can turn it around and make something out of it, and that EA doesn’t come in with an axe and Andromeda them. (“We will totally support Andromeda.” “We have totally decided to drop support for Andromeda, and all upcoming DLC is canceled.”)

You needed better gear. My Colossus can melee two shot anything other than actual level bosses on GM1 difficulty. By anything I mean run into an entire group of whatever, use my melee which is a fire aoe which sets them on fire, switch to my shield and shield slap one of them which will chain combo detonate all of them and they all die. I’ve seen storm and interceptor do similar.

I didn’t see the point in focusing on gear grinding at level 20, and wasn’t enjoying the gameplay enough to put up with “guns that shoot spaghetti-O’s” to slog through until I was max level and there was any point in *keeping* any of the garbage that dropped. And since I have no interest in any kind of “hardcore mode,” the mission difficulties that I was even willing to play at specifically stated that they NEVER dropped legendary items. I wouldn’t have been playing on even Grandmaster 1 (or whatever the first “nightmare” tier that unlocks after you finish the story was called.)

As you say, the items I had were garbage. And the way the drops system was arranged, I could look forward to an endless stream of exactly identical garbage for as long as I cared to play. Which is why I haven’t logged on in months. I’m clearly not the target audience, and the devs have exactly zero reason to care or even notice. *Jedi wave* This is not the game I was looking for.

Its probably a fantasy football team roster printed out and sitting on a keyboard in Bioware’s offices.

For a second i thought this was 2015 and he was talking about SWTOR.

So even worse? You supposedly have a big team working on the game, yet it’s gone nowhere, gotcha.

“I know there’s a lot more work to do to bring out the full potential of the game”…I mean, this is something you would expect to hear six months before the game goes live…smh
