Path of Exile’s Blight expansion is just about to go live for PC players

The whole world.
Path of Exile’s brand-new Blight expansion and league is officially live later this afternoon, approximately one hour from the publication of this piece. The servers went down at 1 p.m. this afternoon for patching and are expected to return at 4 p.m. EDT. That’s for PC, mind you; the console launch is expected on Monday. Blight’s claim to fame is the addition of content that draws from tower defense design.

“Path of Exile: Blight introduces a new NPC, Sister Cassia, who educates the player about the dangerous fungal grows that are spreading through Wraeclast. These growths infect and control the minds of nearby monsters, but Sister Cassia has built a pump that can drain the ichor from the growths to render them harmless. Players must deploy a range of towers to help protect the pump while it does its work. As with all Path of Exile expansions, Blight introduces a wide selection of new skills, items and balance changes.including significant revamps to a few key character archtypes; the Necromancer, the Poison Assassin and the Mine Saboteur.”

What they failed to share until today is the huge nerfbat they swung at physical damage cyclones.

I expected it considering how many melee players in legion were cyclones, over 50% I think I read somewhere.

I was on standard and running about 83K DPS baseline, and about 113K with Bloodrage and Phasing.

Logged in tonight to see the numbers are now at 46K base and 64K with both buffs on and it didnt appear to be due to any changes in my passive skills.

Time to research a new build I think.

I still can’t get over what happens to your character at level 50 or so in the main story. After all the hard work of getting those resistance up.

What happens at level 50? I haven’t played the game in a long time so I don’t know.

You get a debuff that lowers your resistances after a boss fight and it happens again later so you get a -60% debuff in total.

Its really not that hard to mitigate. All I ever do is collect rare rings and belts with resistances on in the acts as I go through them and find a combination that gets me back to cap each time. I rarely might have to go the crafting workbench and add some extra resist from that.

All in all its not all that much of a problem with the minimum of preparation.

There is a reason this happens.

PoE used to be a multi difficulty game, much like diablo 2. Play through on normal, then play through the SAME game on a harder difficulty, and then play through a THIRD time on an even harder one.

Each difficulty increase would bring more challenge, from enemies having more life, dealing more damage… and of course, you having a penalty to your resists.

Since they expanded the game to 10 acts and removed the 3 separate play throughs, the difficulty increase is simulated still via things increasing (or decreasing in the case of resists) at certain key points in the act advancement.

My body is ready. May tinker around in the league, but probably will just end up leveling a ranger on standard with the updated bow skills.

Servers should hopefully be settled by the time I’m off work…sorry classic wow.

Am probably going to poke my head into this for a couple of hours just to see what is what. Really not sure if I am going to sink a long of time into this one though.
