ArcheAge Unchained’s latest stream covers server count, Steam, and labor

If you missed Friday’s ArcheAge stream, then good news for you: The ArcheAge subreddit, which is only slightly more excited for Unchained than the MMORPG subreddit, has helpfully collected all the important takeaways.

Notably, Gamigo has indicated it’ll add two servers per region to begin with, adding more if necessary. (Given the buzz about this, we suspect it’ll need several more.) It’s not clear yet what the population cap will look like, nor whether a faction lock will be added later to deal with the inevitable faction balance problems.

While Gamigo did say in the August stream that Unchained will launch on Steam, ideally on September 30th, the most recent stream suggest the company won’t be talking more about that until closer to launch, so maybe don’t count on that. The studio also added to our understanding of the labor revamp, as it sounds like the regular/F2P version of the game is also getting the revamp and that labor potions may no longer be sold there either (we already knew they wouldn’t be in the Unchained cash shop).

There’s still plenty we don’t know about Unchained, so stay tuned for Gamigo’s infodumps.

I’m down to go back, all my p2w issues I had with the original were addressed it seems.

Just play on the ArcheRage private server and don’t give those scumbags money. They won’t give you a better experience, they only want more money for this dead game that never amounted to anything.

If you want to spend money on something meaningful, buy a WoW Classic subscription – for $15 a month you get to play the best MMORPG in the history of humankind’s gaming.

The pserver is unfortunately monetized too.

I just checked their server rules and never ever I would play there or recommend anybody playing there. If you talk about other games and compare them to Archeage your account gets banned and other complete ridiculous stuff. These admins must be some real control freaks.

I wouldn’t waste my time playing a game like ArcheAge at all considering there is WoW Classic, but I’d still play on the server for the sake of getting a premium experience.

The idea of spending time on the forums sounds counter-logical to me. Why waste time when you can play the game you like?

Well, I liked Archeage, of course not the pay to win aspect of the live game but the core imo was really good. So it would be nice to have an option, but for private servers, it seems to be always the same, these admins are more often than not tyrants.

WoW classic isn’t even fun though? Like where’s the housing and the tree farming and all the other cool stuff. Seems to be a game only for those who want raids and pvp

Exactly. I don’t care about housing or tree farming. These are things I avoided when playing ArcheAge and focused on leveling, gear collecting, PvP and dungeons. I also quit ArcheAge prematurely around level 36, probably because the game is not for me.

And that’s why I now play WoW Classic and having fun – it was my first MMORPG and it set my standards in what I enjoy in an MMO and what I look for in one.

The mechanics/features you talk of are something I don’t see any merit in. It feels to me like something that detracts me from the main thing – evolving my character and making him stronger.

We are still waiting to hear back from XL in regards to [fill in the blank]

Way too many of these. Not going to purchase yet. This close to launch, many of the concerns that should have been addressed already. Examples:

– How will they stop plot quest hackers and land claim bots.

– How will land tax resources will work with store credits because people with subs who never played, only to login and pay thier property taxes took up so much dead land space by paying out of pocket. How will ArchPass dailies stop this with 15-30 minute playtime requirements?

The lack of communication from XLGames feels like it’s another squeeze of blood from a rock and I’m not going pony up just because there is no sub.

I really want to play though. I would rather fight for land plots later knowing I’m getting into a game I’ll be playing more than 4 months.

I bought a founder pack for the original game, don’t see why I should have to pay again for the same game.

Reminds me of the bullshit with LOTRO’s F2P switch. I bought the base game and paid a sub from the time it launched, but after the switch, if I stopped paying a sub I lost access to the content in the base game’s zones and would have to purchase it.

Tired of companies selling back the same shit we already bought.

It’s been years since I bought a founder pack or subbed. I’m okay with buying again, if it means I have a chance at a decent housing spot. I probably won’t have that chance though, I don’t have all that time.

Just play on the private server where you have VIP status by default, why give them more money?

For all the steps forward Gamigo has made removing the obvious p2w from the store which I commend them for they are still allowing a massive advantage (p2w) to exist by allowing 3 accounts per person.

For anyone who isn’t aware AA uses a labour system for almost everything in the game which is capped at 5k, with three accounts you can completely circumvent this restriction with your 15k labour pool and gain a massive advantage over the average player in many areas of the game including gearing and earning potential. There are clearly implications for housing due to its limited supply also.

I was excited to play a non p2w AA but unless they address this, I fear it’s not going to be worth getting hyped about. Maybe I’m being to cynical but the fact they are encouraging the purchase of multiple accounts with this new B2P model sends alarm bells ringing.

Three accounts total is pretty much necessary; limiting it to one prevents people in the same household from playing together.

The purpose of the alternative labor system mentioned in the article (which Korea already uses) is to reward additional labor up to a separate daily cap for normal gameplay activities. Ultimately the intent is to reward actively playing one account rather than idling on multiple alts. It’s something the AA community has been being for for a long time, as best I can tell, so I’m hopeful it will alleviate the fears about the advantage to alts.

Per the official Discord FAQ the account limit is not per IP/household, its per player: “There is a limit of 3 accounts per player in ArcheAge” It was also confirmed in the discord channel that this is the case. So you, your wife, your son, your daughter….you get the idea can all have 3 accounts each.

Per the official Discord FAQ again “The Korean labor system is currently being discussed with XL.” so no conformation on when and what form it will be in, if it is implemented there is still going to be a pretty major disparity between a player with 1 and 3 accounts.

I hope they tackle the alt situation in this week’s livestream as the last stream was thin on information (3 questions answered?) and frankly a bit disappointing.

The thing is that they can’t differentiate between different players in a household, so it’s either phrase it the way they did or have an official policy like Warframe’s where if two accounts on the same network ever exchange platinum, they’re assumed to be one person making multiple accounts to fish for plat discounts and banned.

They also said in one of the streams that the Korean labor system would be in for sure. Is that FAQ actively updated with info from the streams?

As someone who is looking to come back and check out a non p2w AA I find the alt situation to be a major red flag precisely because of these grey areas, and a general feeling that they won’t be enforced evenly across the board anyway.

Gamigo have still not 100% confirmed when and indeed if the KR labour system will be implemented although I have no doubt, they intend to implement it at some point due to the stream. It’s worth noting though this isn’t a silver bullet and wont magically fix the problems caused by allowing multiple alt accounts.

It’s worth highlighting, before Gamigo took the AA forum down for “maintenance” last week there were several polls covering a few of the touchy issues highlighted by the community, one of which asked how many alt accounts should be allowed and over 90% of the vote was for 1 account.

While interesting, it’s still not interesting enough for me to consider buying again. Don’t get me wrong, I feel I got more than my $99 out of it. But I already purchased it. Not buying again. Sorry!

Reader

Agreed. I bought a Founder’s Pack back in the day. Why do I need to pay again to get the game I should have gotten the first time around?

You still can play Legacy at your discretion.
