ArcheAge drops Shadows Revealed graphics video in time for fifth birthday celebrations

ArcheAge is turning five years old in the west today, so Gamigo’s just released a tantalizingly pretty video for folks who are curious just how the the game’s graphics will be improving with the wide-ranging Shadows Revealed update later this month.

“On Mirage Isle, players can partake in a challenging Anniversary event. Adventurers have to make it to the top of the floating platforms with their Glider Boots. On September 30, ArcheAge will receive the major Shadows Revealed update, which will be available for both the Free-to-Play version and the new ArcheAge: Unchained. Included in the update are the newly revised Elven race and a variety of graphical improvements, e.g. from different areas and combat effects.”

The whole Shadows Revealed update will land on the live servers as well as the Unchained servers simultaneously – in fact, you can take an early look at part of the patch notes for Unchained on Reddit. We’ll be streaming up some ArcheAge tonight in celebration of the anniversary, so rejoin us tonight on OPTV at 8 p.m. EDT!

Looks beautiful. Still a huge NOPE from me.

I agree, the updates are beautiful and it makes me regret quitting the game…slightly lol. All in all.. it’s still ArcheAge underneath its shiny new coat of paint.

I, along with many others, are leaving the current version in droves. It’s a shame because the server had a very healthy population before the Unchained announcement. Some are leaving in preparation for Unchained and some are just leaving (I am in this camp).

Many long time players are angry that they are gutting a healthy server, only to force players to start over…with nothing. If I had been one that stayed all those years, I’d be quite angry right now. They have offered the long-time loyal players no incentive to switch and to make things worse they had the audacity to call the new pre-sale packages “Founders” packs (Google for the history on this).

I had been contemplating leaving for a couple months because I finally realized the game had turned into another “job” for me … a couple hours a day spent doing the same dailies over and over for very little progress. It dawned on me, I wasn’t having fun any more, I was just doing what I “had” to do. Then it hit me, I didn’t have to do this anymore =)

I am currently playing SWTOR and am loving the old school ways of this game (but there is a lot of concern about the upcoming 6.0 update in October, some believe it will turn the game into yet another modern type pay-to-win games… we shall see. If it does, I will find something else.

I haven’t played since a month or so after NA launch… two questions for anyone who has kept track of the various updates:
1) Was any pve quest content added past where it ended somewhere around lvl 30 or 35?
2) My memory is a little fuzzy on this, but I seem to recall that a trivial basic (yet essential) crafting ingredient (charcoal iirc) could only be obtained via a trade run to a single specific spot on the opposition continent, where the enemies would just camp 24/7. I’m ok with a general risk of pvp (I play BDO), but this particular setup killed any interest in me playing AA as an organic open-world game past the end of the pve quests. Did this particular situation (and the general design philosophy that led to it) ever change?

I “think” the answer to your 1st question is yes but I’d like someone else to confirm this… leveling in AA is so easy and much quicker if you do it by crafting and is how many level (myself included).

The answer to your 2nd question is also a yes… and no. They changed the name of charcoal to onyx archeum essence (why? I have no clue). The only way to get it is still by crossing the sea with packs BUT there is now a “safe boat” that you can use to complete a daily quest to do the turn in, which can make it much safer (with draw backs). However, the price of said charcoal/onyx has dropped to around 3 gold a piece last time I checked which is affordable to most so if you didn’t wish to bother with that whole thing you could just buy what you needed.

A word of caution, if you haven’t played in quite some time like I hadn’t when I returned last year AND you really enjoyed the crafting aspect of the game you may be disappointed by the changes made.

Crafting isn’t what it used to be… they have skewed things so badly as to make crafting not profitable. All the finished products sell for LESS than the supplies/labor needed to make them. There are ways to make profits (but not huge profits) from crafting : mostly by harvesting ores, wood etc and selling the raw materials.

I would advise anyone thinking of buying Unchained… go back now on one of the old servers as free to play and get an idea of the changes and see if you can live with them before investing your hard earned cash. Although they are making changes as far as limiting buy-to-win features, the rest of the game will remain the same.

I am so ready to play this! Put in some extra time at work and bought the 80$ pack because I’m a nerd for costumes and fluff, been studying up on the game, and canceled my sub to FFXIV.

It appears a lot of people are excited for this AA. The official discord is over 7k people and even the RP community has gotten a resurgence, which sealed the deal for me.

For me, the biggest thing that will be gone is no lockboxes. I never gambled much with them, just enough to realize they were a waste of money and bypassed them completely. I’d much rather buy what I want than gamble away my money.

Certainly looks pretty. I really want this relaunch to work, but it feels to me like there are still too many unknowns. I remember the amount of frustration I felt with the original launch’s housing system, and having such a huge part of the game be inaccessible because of cheaters, bots, and having a life outside the game. If it’s going to be the same situation where only the people who can play at the exact moment the servers go live get houses, I don’t want to revisit the experience.

As far as I know they doubled the amount of land available (since release). You can’t claim a plot until five days after release and a person is only able to claim two unbuild plots. Not sure how much this helps tho….

Well, just yesterday, while wandering through some of the areas in anticipation of unchained, I thought it looks a little outdated and now this… Awesome *-*

Hey, you know what they say about polishing turds.

That being said, it does looks extremely beautiful.

It certainly is prettier. I’m not sure about the character upgrades, did they just spray them with oil or something?

I’ve always said that there were a lot of interesting things about Archeage, and I wish the publisher hadn’t been prone to such crappiness. From someone that did stick with it, I understand that the game basically devolved to one or two massive guilds essentially just camping the great stuff meaning everyone else just got to play in the other 95% of the game. Have they fixed that somehow?

Ultimately, AA might even make it on my to-do list, but frankly with WoW Classic, FFXIV, CoH already there, I have too much to do for the rest of my life already.

Sorry Archeage. Truly.

I don’t know if i’m the only one extremely bothered with the female-only elf character revision.
