Rockstar offers game launcher freebies, Red Dead Online adds legendary bounties and… zombies?

You know what you need? Another games launcher rattling around your harddrive! Yeah, no you don’t, but Rockstar has launched one anyway.

“The Rockstar Games Launcher is a new Windows desktop application that allows you to quickly and easily access your Rockstar Games PC collection in a single place, across both digital and disc-based titles including ones purchased from various other digital stores. You can also use the Launcher to shop for new Rockstar Games PC titles to add to your collection. The Rockstar Games Launcher comes with a host of features including the addition of cloud save functionality to all supported titles, the ability to keep your Rockstar Games PC library updated automatically, and ways to follow all the latest Rockstar Games news from directly inside the Launcher.”

There’s a little something in it for you, too, as Rockstar’s promising a free copy of Grand Theft Auto San Andreas for downloading the Windows app.

In more game-specific Rockstar news, Red Dead Online has released the first of its planned new 10 legendary bounties, as “La Reina de los Banditos, Barbarella Alcazar, must be brought to justice.” You’ll be hunting down the leader of Del Lobos by September 23rd, dead or alive (though there’s more profit in it if she’s on her own two feet, of course).

Curiously, some Redditors are claiming they’ve seen zombies wandering around the game, and if you don’t think it’s a hoax or a glitch, well, maybe Halloween is coming earlier for the title. Either way, it’s creepy as heck.

There are people, including those finding these standing corpses saying maybe it’s a glitch making the corpses stand. Okay, sure, but do the corpses in the game usually have green glowing eyes like that?

It would be interesting if it was on purpose and was the start of teasing Halloween content. Most people who are finding the stuff aren’t really thinking it’s on purpose though for some reason (not knowing or playing the game since I’m waiting for it on PC, I wouldn’t know the usual bugs or looks of corpses, diseased or otherwise).

If it’s just a Halloween thing for online then I have no interest. DLC for the single player game and I will throw money at the screen.

They make most of their money right now in the Online content. And in looking at GTA 5, all the DLC has been Online DLC. So I can’t imagine this would be single player content additions rather than online.

Though then again, there was a news article months back where someone claimed an inside source at Rockstar told them they were working on story DLC expansion content for Red Dead 2 that was supposed to be single player content that was on track to be ready by either December of 2019 or early 2020. That means unlike GTA 5 they have been planning to add single player DLC to Red Dead 2, so we’ll just have to wait and see :D

With the rumor that Red Dead 2 is coming to PC by the end of the year or Winter 2020, the timing makes sense.

Them promoting their own launcher seems to be obviously a step towards the PC release as well.

If Steam only would have lowered their cut of the profits they could have kept their monopoly. It isn’t too late for them to lower them and stop so many big games and companies from doing their own thing or looking elsewhere, though I’m doubtful of the chances of that happening until it’s a much bigger hole in the boat and far more difficult to patch up.

We all know they just want another money printer like gta online but its amazing just how floundering their attempts with red dead are.

FYI it seems that if you install the launcher every time you try to launch GTA5 from steam it will start the Rockstar launcher as well. Or so say RPS.
