The next phase of Astellia Online’s head-start begins tonight

On Friday, Astellia Online launched into the first of several head-start phases for preorder purchasers, that one specifically for Legendary pack buyers. Tonight at 8 p.m. EDT, the gates will open for Platinum packers too.

So how’s it going so far? We’d joked ahead of MJ’s stream Friday night that it might be a clusterfudge, but it actually handled rather smoothly – perhaps because of the staggered rollout and odd timing. Reddit’s reaction has been somewhat positive as well, noting minor bugs and optimization problems that are counterbalanced by the usual Korean MMO expectations and a few standout content bits like pets and crafting.

We’ll be releasing our full and updated impressions later this week, though in the meantime you can check out our hands-on during the beta and our stream from Friday night’s headstart.

I watched parts of MJ’s stream and there’s a really interesting part in there where they overhauled a cave dungeon in beta into a beautiful sea-side village dungeon.

I also watched Ser Medieval on Sunday leveling an assassin and he was having a lot of fun with it.

I am completely burned out on FF14 right now, so for 30 bucks, this will be a nice distraction. The Western team is currently undoing the gender locking right now and they’ve mentioned that they will try to build out crafting to allow crafters to make gear on-par with end level dungeon drops.

The problem with the current craft system is that you only get 1 gathering profession and yet you can craft everything from weaponsmithing to carpentry

Even if you can craft end game gears, you are still required to obtain the “core” elements from dungeon for that weapon.

Crafting serves as a complimentary system to get gears due to the need for dungeon mats drop.

Interesting! I wonder if they’ll remove those constraints in the crafting update.

Already maxed level at 50.Requires about 24-28 hours for first time lvlers. I do not believe it is pay to win except the monthly benefits. I have to say it takes huge effort to truly max out a character. Requires a lot of grind at end game.

I’m in an awkward position – it looks like a decent game and not a cash grab deserving to sunset quickly, and I hope they do well… but I don’t feel any real interest to play it myself and are left hoping that others will (because the genre needs successes)…

Sadly.. anyone I talked to or read comments from seem to say exactly this. (Myself included). I’m happy someone finally took the time to fix a game for the western market and made so many changes but… the game itself just doesn’t seem appealing at all. Nothing sticks out, aside from the pet system but that’s rather meh. I hope it goes well also… because I worry that it may cause future games that come over to say. “Astellia changed things to please the west and still did bad, why bother”… eh we will see I guess.
