Guild Wars 2’s next major class balance patch is dropping October 1

Forget your pumpkin spice lattes, Tyrians, because you will soon be drinking deep from the cup of a balance patch that is due to arrive in Guild Wars 2 on October 1st. You won’t have to wait until then to find out what is going to happen to your class because ArenaNet posted the patch notes of the sweeping changes for all of the professions.

Don’t start hyperventilating just yet; ArenaNet knows you fear change and provided lengthy explanations of just what is happening to each class so that you can fortify your delicate psyche. Some classes are getting tweaks here and there, while others are seeing entire skills reworked or replaced wholesale.

Of particular note is a major rework to Necromancers’ death magic specialization, heavy adjustments to Rangers’ sword skills, new tactics for Warriors, and a change to alacrity and barrier effects.

Looking for more in-depth analysis of all of these class changes? YouTuber Wooden Potatoes took over two hours to carefully comb through them.

While the Tactics changes seem good, the Death Magic changes are a bit…eh, weird? It’s still a pretty selfish line, minions are still garbage, it gives you 600 toughness which is dangerous in PvE ( Aggro ), we don’t know how internal cooldowns will work to see how easy is to stack all 30 DC’s stacks, and honestly, the meta won’t change because of this, it’ll still be the same shitshow it has been, and Necros will still be spiked for a lot.

Also, these changes are a Scourge buff, which means core Necro are even more on the trashbin. Let’s not even consider the more hipster builds which should have been the target of reworks already: Core engi kits, Core necro, Core warrior rifle, druid, thief pistol, etc.

Not gonna lie, these are changes in the “right” direction. But when all you had for years were “right directions”, you kinda stop expecting much.

Edit: I finally got to reading the Scourge changes more in-depth and i jumped the gun saying it would be a buff, but it’s a change that only makes Scourge more clunky. They’ll still be strong and demanded for several reasons, and this balance patch changes none of them.

Well looks like Death Magic Reapers are getting buffed.

Oh so this is the “Buff Scrapper” patch? Right after the “Nerf Scrapper” patch? If this is their idea of balance, they can fuck right off. I’m sick of my favorite character only being worth a damn every three months.

Just play a Mesmer, they’re so broken and integral to PVE that if they seriously nerfed them every one would quit playing the game probably.

Way too pink and purple for my tastes. Threatens my toxic masculinity lol

Yeah nothing says bad ass tank like a fluffy wuss flashing purple effects while shooting butterflies out their ass.

To be fair, it’s the best tank i’ve seen in games til now.

They seriously nerf mesmers all the time. But yes, better treatment than scrapper gets.

Oh look. Another 8 year video out of Wooden Potatoes.

Also ANet always posts their reasoning and ideas behind their game balance decisions. That usually doesn’t justify them nor do those reasons fully take into account other mitigating factors (for example them nerfing over used skills as being “too good” when in fact the other options are just terrible and won’t ever be used).

The constant class balance tinkering (among other issues) is ultimately what drove me out and keeps me away from the game. It’s extremely frustrating to go from enjoying your class to being nerfed cause of some Raid mechanic exploit or hey it’s Tuesday lets just completely change the way these abilities you use work.
