Torchlight Frontiers’ alpha adds enchanting, contracts, and new class skills

Is it weird how Torchlight Frontiers’ alpha updates are more exciting than many regular live MMO patches? Maybe it is because we are still seeing this MMOARPG take shape as the developers put the final touches on core systems.

This is certainly the case with this week’s Update 9: Seeds of Fortune. Echtra Games plugged in the new enchanting system, planted a “luck tree” in forts, brought back a revamped contract and fame feature, and added two more skills for each of the game’s three classes.

“Contracts, fame quests, and an improved quest UI enhance the account-level goals and rewards — including more pets,” said Project Lead Tyler Thompson. “Another batch of class skills adds strategic depth and variety. On top of it all, we have a huge set of bug fixes, new content, tuning changes, and polish.”

Curious about Torchlight Frontiers? Then you definitely need to be following MOP’s Chris as he plays through the game in his Choose My Adventure series!

Cats are finally in as pets but they’re part of the Fame Quest system that resets every week or something. So you really got to hope you get high enough along in it during the week to get one! Or, well, I really got to hope, I needs me a kitty in the game :P

I also highly doubt it – and if they’re considering it I’d very much suggest that they do not do so.

There is too much still to do to make it more fun and long-lasting. They’re not even really done with tweaking and playing with the core systems yet, and once they are they have to turn to putting in a lot more content.

Don’t wish for it to be out, wish for them to put as much work in as possible so that it’s a better game when released.
