The Daily Grind: What’s the longest MMO boycott you’ve run?

Ohhh snap.

There are a lot of games I don’t have any desire to play, and then there’s Star Wars: The Old Republic. I still have some affection for the game, but when the title merged away its RP servers entirely back in late 2017, I declared that this was it, I wasn’t picking it back up. Period end. That’s been in place for about two years now, and since I don’t actually expect it to change, I think it’s just going to… stay that way.

Boycotts are a weird thing; saying that you dislike something being done on a corporate level so much that you’re just out until something significant changes. Sometimes, they don’t have to last long; it didn’t take long for Blizzard to realize that the whole RealID fiasco was an awful plan and stop that World of Warcraft boycott. (Whether or not the company will do anything about the current boycotts and protests still remains to be seen.) Sometimes, well, you’re two years in and don’t really expect it to change. So what’s the longest MMO boycott you’ve run?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!
