Project 1999’s Green server brings back the classic EverQuest experience on October 25

Relive the days of getting hit with SoW by dozens of random people all over again

Back in September, we told you about a new Green server being put together by Project 1999, the EverQuest emulator that got a written blessing from Daybreak Games to operate. The Green server, you’ll recall, is meant to recreate the classic EQ experience with plans to release patches and expansions over the course of the next two years. The developers of the project now have an official launch date for Project 1999 Green of Friday, October 25th.

The launch date comes with a new trailer as well as a number of features such as a List system, achievements, and reduced spawn times for low-level mobs. There will be only one Green server at launch, but a second may be opened up later if populations reach a certain threshold. The devs are also considering feedback regarding a merge of the Green and Blue servers and have stated that they will “leave the door open” to the idea, but they also recognize that “a lot can change in three years,” which would leave the Green server running independently.

For those itching for some “real” classic MMORPG gaming, mark your calendars and return to the low-poly days with the trailer below.

LOL I swear putting A and Q close together was a hilarious joke for the developers.

I’m hearing the sound of battling a skeleton with a hammer — that cackle, followed by the hollow crunch.

Followed by three seconds of waiting for the next swing.

I hear that cackle again, like it was yesterday.

Nope. Respect to those who do, but I will never miss EQ enough to go back. MJ talked us into a naked gnome race last time, and we got lost in Lake of Ill Omen and were eventually slaughtered by gnomophobic elves before our boat made Freeport.

And everything looked much smaller than I remembered.

Honestly I’d rather play and version of EQ2 which made use of multi core cpu’s and better use of my gpu.

I’m looking forward to this more than WoW classic server. I haven’t played blue in a while. Jumping into green with a fresh start will be a lot of fun!

Just so you guys know, this is a relive of Classic EQ. I mean, it’s Classic to the core.

I’m not joking, they’re even bringing things that were pure idiocy like meditation being an screen on itself. I don’t know about bugs and whatnot, but the main admin really wants this to be a carbon copy of classic, even if it wasn’t intended by the company, but was present at the game, it’ll be present here.

And i’m sure the first days will be terribly overpopulated and farmed.

Meditation doesn’t take up the whole screen like classic, but you do have to keep the book open and hit a meditate button. It won’t be for everyone, but what game is?

I’m not saying it should be for everyone. It isn’t. It’s just an word of warning. Green will be what it will be. I don’t hold anger for it.

its not classic unless it has the old stone UI that takes up all of the screen except the middle and thats taken when u sit down by ur book

So tempted. But I don’t have the larger chunks of MMO-time necessary for EQ like I did in my mid-20’s.
