New World of Warcraft ‘leak’ continues to fan the flames of assumption for the next expansion

Those within the World of Warcraft community have already been pondering what the next expansion for the MMORPG is, whether it’s something like Shadowlands that we’ve touched on a couple of times or whatever Age of Darkness is supposed to be. Or maybe, as Eliot wrote in his WoW Factor last week, it’s a new spin on something relating to Wrath of the Lich King. Well, now there’s another supposed leak, and if it’s a con, it’s easily the most convincing yet.

An image posted on the WoW subreddit appears to be from an ad selling a fine art print of Shadowlands featuring a Bolvar Fordragon that has fully succumbed to the throes of the Helm of Domination and become the next Lich King, complete with a new hammer that’s all skull-ified because that’s just how Death Knights roll.

Naturally, this should all be taken with your favorite salt grains, but it certainly does seem accurate, and it even furthers our own pondering about the next expansion; you can read about that (and just why a sequel to Wrath is probably not a great idea) in last week’s WoW Factor.

Is this the real leak? from wow

The “Naxx 3: Now On Fire” comment in the subreddit was enough to make this “leak” hubbub all worth it for me, whether it’s real or not.

Fan the flames of this company burning down, and we’ll talk.

They should just call it: Rise of the Chinese Shill Company and be done with it.

I won’t be purchasing. Sorry Blizzard (actually no; I’m not sorry)

Well, it’s official.

If this is real then Blizz is out of all ideas.

Looks very convincing if not for the fact that Bolvar who is now the Lich King, has orange eyes rather than Arthas’ blue…

Maybe it’s just the helm that gives the blue eyes.

Is THIS The Real Soundtrack Leak?

(sorry, I couldn’t resist :-) )

For the younger and curious, this is the band, Japan, from their album Tin Drum (1981). Yes, they were influenced by David Bowie (among others) and they influenced a number of others themselves (including Duran Duran, who were also famous at the time).

Well, it would seem like this an attempt to bring WoW back from the dead…

Call me a pessimist

But a conveniently timed leak for the next big expansion in the midst of the angry mob over recent stupidity.. its almost as if someone orchestrated it in order to distract said angry mob with something shiny to think about instead lol

Actually, I’d call you a realist.

Our outrage is here and gone pretty quickly for a lot of stuff. It’s all the rage for a while and then we move on and forget. I still personally am outraged at the shooting of Cecil the Lion.

This is a game news site that needs to quickly get back to business and report game news, so I don’t want or expect them to keep rage here, but I mean as people we get all upset and ready to do something about it, mostly just complain and rage, and then move on and forget it.

And yeah, this definitely looks like a Blizzard plant. They’re like “Look at this shiny thing over here, let’s talk about this! Let’s think of this when we bring up Blizzard! Let’s discuss this instead!”

I do think we should move on eventually about just Blizzard. They stepped in it, but they’re far from the only one, they just brought it to our attention and the vast majority of game companies would do and do do the same. Riot even told us all about how they were going to as well and that barely registered for people.

So Blizzard should be part of the conversation, but not the entire thing. Obviously it goes far beyond game studios. Hollywood is basically China’s lapdog as well. So many entire industries want to let them do whatever so as not to upset the cash cow possibility.

There is something we should not forget or move on from. We as people of the world need to take something from this and not move on from what is happening with Hong Kong. It’s funny that it took something like this for a lot of people to look into it and even notice. China does a good job at trying to keep this silenced unless you go looking for it.

We need a spotlight kept on what is going on with China and Hong Kong as people of the world and find ways to get involved, though we don’t really need that spotlight kept on Blizzard. Still, I’d agree that this seems like a conveniently timed leak as well.

The real and fake leaks happen before every single BlizzCon, no matter how poorly Blizzard is being received at the time.

For sure, but the convenience of this is just a little…TOO convenient ;)

Yeah, I can’t say they didn’t earn this skepticism for sure.
