Massively OP Podcast Episode 244: An Onslaught of news

13

On this week’s show, Bree and Justin don’t have to go to a galaxy far, far away to get a new dose of Star Wars: The Old Republic. Nor do they have to wait for very long for Fallout 76 to stir up a new controversy. And what’s this about Kritika Online coming back and DDO getting mounts?

It’s the Massively OP Podcast, an action-packed hour of news, tales, opinions, and gamer emails! And remember, if you’d like to send in your own letter to the show, use the “Tips” button in the top-right corner of the site to do so.

I’m playing FFXIV for the 3rd time but this time i bought the game and planning to keep going because of the story, but as Justin said, the MSQ at level 50 is way too long and i’m not 50 yet, so instead of focusing on that i do other stuff, the deep dungeon, or crafting or beast tribes quests … then go back to MSQ.

Bitten by a Giraffe… priceless lol

I want Outer Worlds SO bad.. but I’m kind of salty at Epic right now for the length of the exclusivity.. a whole frikkin year!!!!! a month or two I would have been meh whatever..but a year that’s just grr. So I’m not buying it until it comes to Steam on principal. Plus the way I figure it a year from now DLC will be out any bugs will be cleaned up and it will likely be discounted so win win lol.

As an aside though I always cringe when I hear folks say it must be great because New Vegas was great… I mean SURE the story was good but people forget that game was and STILL is a technical fu** up the game literally cannot run without crashing after a few mins without mods. That they released a game in that state and get praise for it still shows just what suckers consumers are imo. I don’t care how good a game is if it doesn;t run then it is nothing but a digital turd in my books lol.

I won’t deny the game has some technical problems, but I played almost 200 hours of F:NV and its DLCs without installing a single mod. And a lot of those problems are because Bethesda only gave Obsidian 18 months to develop and release it.

I find it incredibly hard to believe noone I have ever known or heard of who has played the game before has been able to get it to run for more than 10 minutes without a crash the games was bugged to high hell. Without mods it is unplayable.

The props for Fallout New Vegas should not go to Obsidian they should go to the mod makers as they were the ones who delivered a playable game not Obsidian lol.

It also depends “when” you played it, I’m assuming we are not speaking about release? as I had the game from release and like I say see above.. years after the fact the game had some tweaks.

If however you are referring to its original release then I can only assume your PC specs of the time must have been incredibly similar to what they used to develop the game as your experience of no crashes is very much not the norm lol

Also whatever the reasons for the issues NO GAME should EVER be release in that state to consumers there has to be some standards and the game running frankly should be the MINIMUM requirement not the best we canhope for lol

Correct, it released in Oct 2010 and looking at my Steam achievements I played it in Jul-Aug 2013. With most single player games, unless my money’s supporting a small dev studio I always prefer to wait and buy them when they’re on sale and have had time to be thoroughly patched.

Thoroughly agree that games shoduldn’t be released in an unplayable state, but I still give huge props to Obsidian for F:NV – a great game with technical problems can be fixed to become a great game, a rubbish game which runs perfectly is still a rubbish game.

That’s it though the good game was not fixed by Obsidian, indeed until its steam release it didn’t get any fixes at all and even now it still crashes but at release as I say it was practically unplayable it took the mod makers not the studio to make it that way.

You are almost there Justin. The story in FFXIV does start getting better “soon”.

I recently went from mid ARR to the end of Stormblood in a bout 6 weeks, but I needed a break before I embark on Shadowbringers.

We need a report about the possible banning of soda machines in schools. My high school had designated smoking sections – times have changed a lil.
