World of Warcraft’s 15th anniversary celebration starts today

Once more into creating the breach.

After 15 years of World of Warcraft, you’d expect something of a blowout for the game’s anniversary… and that’s exactly what you’re getting with the new anniversary event offering extensive rewards. Players need only log in to get a pet and a celebration package, but they can also take on an old-school version of Alterac Valley to earn faction-appropriate mounts or take on classic raids to earn their very own Deathwing mounts. Because is there anything more appropriate in World of Warcraft than rewarding you by having a thing to ride on? No. There is not.

If you want to get everything from the event, you’ll need to both take on the old-school AV experience (which can also be used to level characters) and deal with nine of the most memorable raid bosses from the game’s first three expansions. Fortunately, the event will be running until January 7th, so you’ve got plenty of time… and since the anniversary package also increases experience and reputation gains by 15% during the entire period, you’ll have a notable advantage.

From the WoW site..

“To enter the raid, you need a minimum item level of 380. Players who complete all three wings will receive the achievement Memories of Fel, Frost and Fire which grants the Obsidian Worldbreaker, a Black Dragonflight mount inspired by Deathwing.”

*At the sound the pigtails blowing a party horn and popping cork of champagne…*

…yay? o.O

“You don’t seem all that enthusiastic about that, Uta.”

Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s a fundamental achievement in lieu of have many claimed it’s demise. As well as still being the biggest kid on the block where sustainable subscriptions are told.

…however, in light of their behavior of late, I really don’t feel inspired to celebrate that personally. /sigh

Yeah. I’m not feeling the whole, “Get all your friends together and have a riotous party over how awesome this thing is!” vibe, it’s more of a standing around to listen to a boring speech before clapping politely and taking a slice of cake back to your desk to continue working as usual.

How ironic that they are commemorating the event by focusing on Deathwing so heavily — the lore Deus ex Machina for what to a great many people not only broke the world but the game itself.

One of the good things Cata had was good raid design imho, not overly long with trash, but mechanically intensive for the time. Not to mention the actual Deathwing fights were visual feasts

Whch is funny, because mechanically everything was good, but thematically, it was shit. People HATE the Dragon Soul raid because they expected to fight DW in all his glory, not to massage his back, then do his nails.

But the fight itself, if you take the theme out of it, is godlike.

Well, they already had anniversary events for the iconic vanilla themed raids and have rewarded us with most of the cool dragon mounts modeled after the big pre-Cataclysm dragons. He’s only one-third of the raid event and remains a cool-looking mount to have in your collection.

Lil Nefarian is cool too :)
