Star Citizen shows off a new mission involving a hijacked 890 Jump spaceship

This week’s Star Citizen video digest has a little mission for you, should you choose to accept it. An 890 Jump has been taken over by pirates, and you must recover it. Should you fail, the CIG mission force will disavow any knowledge of your existence. This website comment section will self-destruct in five seconds because that usually happens with some folks when it comes to Star Citizen stories.

Alpha 3.8 will introduce an all-new kind of mission that tasks players with heading to the hijacked spaceship, clearing out enemy ships outside, then entering the ship from the hangar to clear out more nasties in FPS combat as well as stop a number of hacks from completing before time expires. There are also a number of security guards to rescue should players choose to as well, though that objective doesn’t appear mission critical.

The hijacked ship mission is the first of its kind that wasn’t possible in Star Citizen before until the 890 Jump was created and mission sharing was implemented. As such, this mission is best suited for a team of players, though a solo player could conceivably finish it if they don’t mind the difficulty curve (compounded by the rather long NPC time to kill in FPS combat).

The video also offered a quick look at the game’s sound design with thoughts from several sound designers about working on Star Citizen and their role in fleshing out the world. You can check it all out in the embed.

Looks rough but the concept is there. Glad to see a variety of missions emerging as the Alpha matures. I would like to see more complexity though. Breaking this mission up into reward stages. Like seeing this continue on as a rescue scenario, maybe call in (contract) a Argo tow-tug ship to transport this disabled 890 to a port for repairs. Make things more interesting, utilizing more vessels, more intrigue and opportunities for other players.

Those enemies are absolute bullet sponges. Who would ever think that was fun? That time-to-kill needs to be cut in half, at the minimum.

Holy hell that is rough! They’ve been working on animations and AI for ages now and it looks complete and utter jank… compare it to The Division 2

And why did that ship do a little dance when he fired his gun? Are 100 ton spaceships affected by soundwaves or some shit?

Quote: “They’ve been working on animations and AI for ages now ”

That is always nice to see one of the 10 active refundian around and there always on point comparison (/s) with others Triple-A already released… which are sequel of previous Triple-A, from company created 33 years ago, which made 1.7 Billion $ in 2018 (the same on average during the 6 previous years) with up-to-date pipelines, game engine and thousands of devs…

No CIG did not work for ages about animation and AI. They built from scratch their company, including specific pipelines, hiring talented devs over years.

Improvement of various games aspects like animations, ships and AI’s are made by iteration like any others game development.
Anyone who care about the project can head to CIG roadmap page and check the animations, AI and ship improvement planned for the next 3 patch: Star Citizen Roadmap.

Meanwhile, those understanding true Alpha can both help the team ironing out bugs and have fun with team of up to 50 others players.

Without surprise, this 2019 Division 2 video just demonstrate Ubi is good at… copying/pasting the same graphics and gameplay since years… Meanwhile we got now in Alpha a video sample of RexZilla SC event showing a Cutlass dropping a group of guys to fight on land… after flying from space to planet which is 1/6th the size of real ones.

Despite all your energy to soil this project by any possible biased trick, it is coming to fruition :)

OCS (Object Container Streaming) double or even triple FPS, SOCS (same but on Server side) is going to be at least partially implemented in next patch… and half the project (Squadron 42) is at 4 quarters of Beta not counting at least 6 more quarterly patch for SC adding unique location (I.E. planets and moons) new biomes, features and gameplay (salvage, medic…)

In the meantime you can play any released or soon to be released indies games or triple-A of your choice like Division 2, RDR2, CBPK2077… because it is possible to have a life beside SC and spend 45$ over a period of years to support a unique project made by and for backers :)

Wow, someone got triggered…

No CIG did not work for ages about animation and AI. They built from scratch their company, including specific pipelines, hiring talented devs over years.

They have been working on animations and AI for years now but as can be seen from this video it remains exceedingly basic.

Whatever @Cmdr_Cotic.

Don’t forget to share animation from BF5 or COD numerous spin-off totaling around 100 Billions $ of revenues and roughly +200K days-man (Activision + EA over only 10 years with all up-to-date pipelines and budget) … VS a project starting from scratch.
You made the perfect demonstration of your biased behavior :)
