TERA’s latest PC patch tweaks classes, offers new leveling event and sweet dragon mounts

Boom, crash, new year, explosions.

PC players should point their eyeballs toward TERA this week, as En Masse has ponied up an update for the action combat MMORPG that’s meant to buff up the basics and begin an event as well. Patch v87, the studio says, tackles “bugs and improving class balance for a smoother experience as players begin to tackle the challenges in the recently-added sky island Exodor.” But the accompanying event itself is probably of bigger importance to players still working through the game’s older content.

“En Masse Entertainment is kicking off a new Celestial Experience event today to make it easier for players to reach level 68 and begin their Exodor adventures. Each day during the event, players will receive Celestial Scales for completing their first Vanguard Request and have a chance to earn additional Scales from defeating dungeon bosses who will drop a Box and Key. These Scales can be spent to acquire Experience Boosting scrolls that will grant considerable experience for characters level 65 and up. […] Upon reaching level 68 with their first character of that class on the server, players will be granted temporary gear to help them begin their Exodor adventures where they can replace the temporary gear with permanent versions.”

And what if you’re already at level 68? You can just spend your scales on a Celestial Dragon mount straightaway. Definitely take a peek at the patch notes for details on the new dungeons and class balancing – warriors, it looks like you’re getting the bulk of the changes.

One of these days I should give TERA another shot. While leveling I hated the incredibly samey dungeon design from one to the next and the fact that they had trivialized BAMs so much that they were literally leveling fodder.

Perhaps if I get past the level grind I will find more enjoyment in it since I did enjoy the combat. At least it might hold my attention until the UE4 update for Blade and Soul.

I got to like level 74 of 80 way back at launch and it just got worse. So slow and incremental leveling.

I loved the BAMS but the questing was the worst I have seen and the storyline was incomprehensible.

When I played TERA last year for a few months it was during a somewhat down-period in my life and I appreciated the heck out of the just dumb-grind of it.
But I can see how if not in that mindset, the game can be a bit repetitive.
