Betawatch: New World will return to testing and a launch after all

I freely admit that I thought we had already heard the last we would ever hear about New World and that it had been banished to the land of wind and ghosts. Thankfully, that’s not the case at all! The game has officially been given a launch window of May 2020! That’s a few months away, but the most important thing is that it is definitely still happening. Whew.

Other beta news did happen this week, too!

Now go in peace, children, and perhaps scour the list below to see if any of the items listed therein catch your eye. If they catch your eye because they jumped test phases or if the lack of something catches your eye, well, you can tell us about that down in the comments.

As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.

AdventureQuest 3D: Open beta
Arcfall: Pre-alpha

Yes, MMO gamers, you too can perform the unpaid quality-control work otherwise known as game testing! Check out Massively Overpowered’s Betawatch every week for a run-down of MMOs that are still on the road to launch, even if they appear to have set up a permanent residence in a shed called early access.

Bet that launch date came as a complete surprise to half the dev team. At least.

Surprised that NW can launch in such a short time, after major revamp. Beta not even begun yet afaik.

Agreed. It’s kind of strange that we went from a one zone, shallow mechanics alpha to a launch date in 6 months. Not per-ordering this. Going to see how the reveal rolls out as we get closer, if not wait until after it’s gone live to get in if it’s got good feedback.

Yea. Last experience with this game was… wow this needs a lot of work and probably a few more years of development before we see anything good. Dead silent months later… oh hey guys… release in 6 months. O.o
