Pearl Abyss’ MMO shooter Plan 8 reveals new screenshots and how exosuits work

When Pearl Abyss announced a slew of new games back in November, MMORPG fans were naturally drawn first and foremost to Crimson Desert. But we should probably be following Plan 8 just as closely, as the Korean studio is calling it an MMO too – specifically, an exosuit first-person MMO shooter for PC and console, built in PA’s proprietary engine. Today, the team has dropped a bunch of new images for the game as well as a full outline of what to expect in conjunction with an update on the official website.

MMO or shooter? Yes.

“Pearl Abyss is striving to create a next-generation shooter that combines the best elements of the MMO genre to create an entirely new experience unlike any other shooter game on the market. A vast open world and profound worldview will be important to PLAN 8. Though Pearl Abyss describes PLAN 8 as a shooter, it is difficult to confine the game to a single genre. The project aims to create a unique shooter title with MMO gameplay elements.”

What’s up with exosuits?

“PLAN 8 is defined as an exosuit MMO shooter. The exosuit is a robotic device that the player can wear, offering amazing abilities. A key feature of PLAN 8 is finding and equipping different Gears to the player’s exosuit, opening up gameplay experiences never-before-seen in any game. Exosuits allow players to exercise superhuman power, granting wearers extraordinary strength and capabilities. Every exosuit has its own special abilities. When an exosuit meets another on the battlefield, they can counter each other depending on their compatibility. This allows for complex strategic gameplay through advantages and disadvantages among exosuits. Player can use exosuits in many different ways. For example, an exosuit with enhanced arms will help them climb up and down walls, while one with enhanced legs will help them jump over high walls and buildings.”

And pew pew?

“Firearms play a very important role in the world of PLAN 8. Like exosuits, firearms can be enhanced or modified using various parts that players can choose. Enhancement and modification of firearms doesn’t follow a standardized format. Players can customize their firearms based on their own creative ideas. “

New pics and old trailer incoming. Who’s hyped for this one?

Please be what The Division’s concept originally claimed it was going to be. A compelling open world, faction based MMORPG where deep equipment diversity, territory/resource/trade and commerce control, play a huge role in how motivation for combat works. I will play if it’s developed correctly out of the gate. I’m not taking promises from any developer at this point. Do it right.

Looks great, hopefully it plays as good as it looks.

> first-person

Well, kthnxbai

> gameplay experiences never-before-seen in any game

In fact I’ve seen this wheelchair simulator experience many times before.

“specifically, an exosuit first-person MMO shooter for PC and console”

When I read that I thought “I sure hope they decide to let us switch into 3rd person.” And then the video and all the screenshots I see look like they are specifically 3rd person. I think maybe that first-person line was written by accident?

The other articles I read definitely said 3rd person.
