CIG hands out some eye candy with a new visuals trailer for Squadron 42

All right, Squadron 42, I get it. You’re pretty. Extremely pretty. But this recent visuals trailer you released? That’s just straight up showing off. I’m not mad at it, though; walk your walk, baby.

The folks at CIG decided to collect all of the work done to the single-player narrative portion of Star Citizen with a juicy widescreen video full of atmospheric effects, chitinous spaceships, and long, droning synth pads. What I’m trying to say is that it’s a visually arresting trailer, even if it reminds me that my PC is the starchiest of potatoes when put up against Star Citizen right now.

Of course, this still doesn’t provide any sort of context on when Squadron 42 will be in a playable state; that’s what the roadmap is for, which pins a beta for sometime in the third quarter of 2020 barring any further delays or adjustments. For now, you can feed your eyes that sweetness in the embed below.

they still have some stuff to work on, ‘in 2020’ likely means a near-Christmas push of a not-ready-for-beta beta

but that video was pretty cool, there’s a couple of ships in there that I’d like to fly

SQ42 needs to release in 2020. With all of the resources RSI has, this should be doable. That said, SC persistent is so good right now, if I have to wait I’ll wait.

I think SSOCS was probably the biggest constraint. They’ve been waiting on that for a while now. Most of the content is probably finished but for a couple of polish passes. I think we’ll see it launch late next year for the single-player campaign.

The mad bastard might yet do it.

You can mock the cost and time, but all that feature creep and reaching for the moon has given him the base for the next generation of single player campaign titles. Imagine Skyrim or Borderlands in such an engine.

It’s been a long, long time since I’ve played a great space campaign game. X-Wing vs Tie, Rogue Squadron… but this will be the first time I’ve had the FPS experience as well.

EDIT: Also, grats CIG on their record $10,000,000 haul this December. Record breaking month. Record breaking year. It’s mind-blowing.

The single, you mean? He might. Someday.

Well, if SQ42 launches until the end of 2020, you’ll see me cheering for SC.
