We’re taking a tour back through our MMO coverage, month by month, to hit the highlights and frame our journey before we launch into 2020 and a whole new decade of MMOs!

In July, Amazon confirmed that it was working with Athlon Games on the brand-new Lord of the Rings MMO first announced in 2018. Naturally, we hope it doesn’t suck.

Meanwhile, RuneScape launched Land out of Time, EVE Online tested a comms blackout, and Daybreak’s EverQuest 3 teases and trademark filings gave us our first inkling that the company was planning a reorganization.

Read on for the whole list from July of this past year!

Amazon is the perfect fit for creating an mmo. They have so much experience making you grind out long hours for little pay!
(haha just kidding)

while LOTRO is a good game(that is slowly gettng old) I got the same beef I had with ESO when it got released. Both IPs are perfect platforms to create a sandbox mmo with a huge and rich world to live in but both games went the theme park route

Damn, I hope this will be a good game, no pay 2 win, multi-faction, content rich, meaningful PVP on both sides, RP friendly and with respect towards the lore. But with a Chinese holding behind it which specialises in free to play games, there is zero chance for this to happen.

The best thing that could happen to the LOTR IP is for the Amazon/Anthlon MMORPG to be a success and for SSG to crash and burn for their greedy monetization and exploitation of Tolkien fans. That might be a bit harsh, but it needed to be said.

It will feature a store, lockboxes, daily login rewards, plenty of daily quests and more. A marketing ploy with a shell of a game built around it.

Could you please share your sources with us? Surely everyone would like to know more about the game and you seem to know everything and so early too!

You need actual proof and documentation? Name me 3 AAA-MMOs which do not feature at least 2 of the aforementioned types of ‘content’. As an added bonus; it’s developed by an Asian developer, published by the biggest Western online marketing corp. A match made in heaven *rolleyes*

So no, I don’t have any sources. And yes, you may quote me on this 3 years fom now. Looking forward to it. Your quote that is, not this game.

If that’s every MMO then when state the obvious and what difference does it make that this one will have that?

And we wonder why the MMO scene is in the state it is, why EA lies to government officials, LotRO has become P2W, ESA invades upon the privacy of journalists, Bethesda has stopped this low, …

But sure, if that’s what 99% of them has become, what can we poor o’l gamers do about it but just accept it. Right? I’m happy for you guys. Enjoy your wonderful world of MMOs.

To stick to the LotR theme;
“I don’t know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.”

Toodles.

Ahh I see. This will be like that because they are all like that so why should this be different, and the world is a ghetto.

I have absolutely nothing against any daily quests or a store or lockboxes for cosmetic rewards as long as game itself will be good.
