MassivelyOP’s 2019 Golden Yachties: Best MMO April Fools’ joke that wasn’t a joke

MassivelyOP’s not-so-serious end-of-the-year awards continue today with our pick for Best MMO April Fools’ joke that wasn’t a joke. If you’re wondering what the heck a Golden Yachtie is, you can get caught up with the first award. And the winner is…

AdventureQuest 3D’s 8bit NES game

Though I initially thought this was a joke, it wasn’t at all: Artix put up a Kickstarter for AdventureQuest 8-Bit: Dungeons & DoomKnights, billed as a “zeldavania” game for NES (or emulator on PC). But it was a real Kickstarter and a real game, and it funded on day one.

There’s a runner-up for this one: Remember when Funcom posted up the Conan Chop Chop April Fools’ day trailer? And then it turned out to not be a joke – it turned out to be a real game? And then it got delayed, but only so they could make it more like an MMO? We could use more jokes like this.
