The Daily Grind: Which MMOs do you want to play in 2020?

There’s nothing like a new year — and a new decade! — to encourage one to make grand plans that may or may not actually happen. It’s a whole year of gaming possibilities, of untouched hours that can be spent in virtual worlds, ascending virtual heights, and bickering with virtual egos in world chat.

I like to take stock of my larger gaming goals at the start of the year, keeping in mind what MMOs I haven’t played in a while that I want to revisit while also eyeing new titles coming down the pike. There’s a lot that I’d love to do, time permitting, including heading back to Neverwinter, playing some superhero MMOs for the Super-verse column here, and diving into Torchlight Frontiers and Phantasy Star Online 2 when they release.

What about you? Which MMOs do you want to play in 2020?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Nothing. Maybe when Amazon does something.

1. EverQuest Classic “Green” server (Having a blast, not stopping any time soon)
2. City of Heroes Homecoming Servers (Love my heroes, too many to play!)
3. Crowfall (Bought into the game, still haven’t played it, waiting for beta)
4. Project Gorgon (When the race of Faeries is created, I’ll come back)
5. Pantheon (pretty sure this wont’ release, but there is hope)
6. Elite Dangerous (will pop into space from time to time)

That’s my list.

Studios are no longer developing games for my generation, so I’d rather play an official Wrath of the Lich King server and nag about the good old days.

I’ll keep running along in Project Gorgon, and maybe try Villagers and Heroes on the bus. Also, I’m hoping to try Temtem still this first quarter. And if any beta of DokeV happens this year, would be nice if I could join.

There are also many other MMOs on various stages of development that may or may not join this list as 2020 develops.

Dual Universe is the one I’m hoping to take for a spin this year.

I’d like to be in a big beta test battle with hundreds of people in CU with lots of teamwork and buildings kersploding.

Unless something new comes out, I’ll float between GW2 and BDO. IMO, GW2 is the better game, but BDO is the more immersive world.

I hope that I can find a reasonably casual RvR/WvW game for long-term. GW2 has left WvW lingering for a long time – if they do something this year, then great. Otherwise, it’s looking pretty dry unless one of the eternal-beta games come through.

I’m going to need at least another solid uninterrupted year playing City of Heroes before I can even consider dabbling with any other game.
