Elite Dangerous clarifies a misunderstanding regarding its Arx cash shop currency

Cash shop currency purchases are always a pretty sensitive thing, understandably, so when an Elite Dangerous player reported that deleting a character wiped out their Arx cash shop balance, it set off a bit of a firestorm in the forums.

According to the original post, all of a character’s Arx currency was wiped; purchased paint jobs and other cosmetics were indeed account-bound, but any unspent Arx were deleted along with the Commander that had it. This set off several replies in the thread, with many decrying the lost Arx as a flub-up by Frontier Developments and others assuming that Arx earned for free are what got deleted, not purchased Arx.

After about four pages’ worth of responses, one of the devs stepped in with an explanation that confirmed Arx are account-bound and not character-bound, and referred anyone with issues to contact support. The dev also brought up the idea of adding this explanation to the Arx FAQ, which has indeed been done.
