MassivelyOP’s Weirdest MMO Stories of 2019: Fat chocobos and daddies

A bigger and blacker... oh, god, the jokes are really accidental.

Today we’re working through our countdown of Massively OP’s weirdest MMORPG stories of 2019!

Coming in at #3 on our list is…

FFXIV players stuff themselves with food to win a fat chocobo

Look, chocobos are the cutest, and everyone wants one. But in China, players were asked to go waaaaaay too far to get one as part of an Amazon cross-promo that tasked them with eating a “family-sized meal intended for four just to get one code” for the chicky. KFC jokes ensued.

This isn’t even the only weird thing FFXIV was party to this year. Remember the weird but kinda wholesome list on the game’s subreddit about the best daddy? This is a whole thing. There’s even a chart.

Unofficial Final Fantasy XIV Daddy Tier List from ffxiv

Thanks for playing along with our weird stories countdown, and don’t forget to check out our annual MMORPG awards and our blooper awards!

I’m sure there was other weird stuff, I can nearly tickle the weirdness out of my brain, but then I remember the fat chocobo event and I just die! (Partly in morbidness and partly in laughter.)

There were videos that hit youtube of players stuffing themselves at KFC in an attempt to get a fat chocobo. All I could think of is how blindly people will do things utterly bad for themselves if led into doing it with a piece of cheese. Sometimes I feel like we’re just one big, giant rat lab.

I like that there’s a difference between Baby Alphinaud and Punished Alphinaud.

Also Merlwyb as S Tier.

It should be noted that this tier list was assembled before Shadowbringers and, among other changes, Thancred should now be listed significantly lower.
