Here we go, folks – with the Lunar New Year festival underway in Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet is now turning its promotional attention back to the Icebrood Saga and its first entry of the year: Shadow in the Ice. Announced back in December, this episode – the second full chapter, or the third entry in the series – is set to launch on January 28th, and today, we’re getting not just a trailer but more info on what to expect.

“The second chapter of Guild Wars 2’s continuing story The Icebrood Saga arrives Tuesday, January 28 as the shroud around an ancient and primordial beast is finally lifted. Titled Shadow in the Ice, the episode expands the frigid landscape of the Northern Shiverpeaks while confronting players with an epic world boss known as Drakkar. In addition, a multitude of new activities and expanded systems introduced in Episode One await the intrepid and daring. ArenaNet released a new trailer today that gives a glimpse of the challenges ahead, and the first steps on the road that leads to player ally Braham’s prophetic destiny.”

What should you expect? An “expansion” of the Bjora Marches map (it’ll double in size), new Essence Manipulation and Raven Attunement mastery track tiers, another new strike mission, another tier for the Ancient Boreal weapon set, Raven armor, new world boss Drakkar, and The Trials of Koda, “a series of new rotating, multi-tiered map events with unique achievements.”

Beyond this episode? ArenaNet has already promised more efforts on Swiss tournaments and balancing as well as “a new type of Living World content called Visions of the Past: a story that will take you out of the commander’s shoes and give you a new perspective on Ryland Steelcatcher.” You can check out the new trailer and pics for this episode, however, below.

I’ll wait for all the “expansion level content” of the Icebroom Sparta to be released before/if I get back. Right now I’m getting a lot of bad vibes from the developers reminiscent of situations in other games that didn’t end up in a good place. Hope I’m wrong.

Well, this is the last dragon left to deal with other than the one they haven’t even said the full name of.

there is also Primordus. But in the lore Jormag and Primordus are tied together, because they are each other’s weaknesses, because Jormag is Ice, Primordus is Fire. There was a close moment both could die, because of Balthazar trying to consume Primordus’ magic in Flashpoint (Season 3), and since we stopped him in the last moment, now Jormag and Primordus are hibernating, but it doesn’t mean they don’t have influence on the regions they rule over, so Jormag uses whispers to communicate and dead bodies to speak through them (gross).

But basically there are 4 dragons now as physical figures, with Kralkatorrik’s magic circulating inside of Aurene, and 2 dragons which magics are circulating within other 4 – Zhaitan’s and Mordremoth’s.

I meant it in the bigger meta mmorpg picture. Too many dragons in mmorpgs including in GW2.

Seems kinda meh IMO, and I loathe that they’re expanding the new mastery system that’s functionally just the aegis system from TSW. It’s freakin awful.

This “expansion level” arc is alright so far, but compared to a proper expansion (even paid for) is leaving a lot to be desired : /

Thank goodness, I thought it was only me who thought it was like the terrible Aegis system from TSW. Freaking awful is right.
