Pokemon-esque MMO Temtem is down to two last stress tests before early access next week

So, who’s keeping an eye on Temtem? The Pokemon-but-better MMO has been in alpha since late 2018 and announced its pre-launch plans way back in December, but we’re inching closer to the date now: The early access is set to kick off on Tuesday, January 21st, and you’ll be able to pick it up on PC via the Humble Bundle store and Steam for $34.99 US.

There are still two stress tests planned before then, though, including one that begins this afternoon. And there’s a brand new video out ahead of the launch too, showing off some of the game’s core pet mechanics.

Fun side note: This title is poised to become another crowdfunding success story; MMO players will recall that it funded on Kickstarter in July of 2018 to the tune of around $575K.

Temtem made our big list of MMOs to watch in 2020, and MOP’s Stream Team bravely ventured into the game a month ago, so here’s a quick peek at how it plays:

They’re using regional pricing on Steam, so it went from “maybe” to “hell yeah” on my next month’s gaming purchase list.

The game is damn good. It’s incredibly easy to interact with other players too so there’s very little friction points in the MMO aspects. It’s not like you have to invite another player using a friend code to join your game and even then there’s only you and them and nobody else. It’s got an overworld that has tons of players running around and you can literally click on a person and request a: battle,trade,team-up,etc just like that.
I backed it on KS thinking that I would be playing but honestly I have since kind of fallen out of love with the Pokemon game formula. I MIGHT still play it out but as of right now I’m thinking about just giving away my keys (when I get them, don’t have them yet). Not because it’s not good but again, just because I’ve kind of lost my interest in another monster-collecting game.

It’s best to lay off other monster collectors for a while leading up to the launch so you don’t overdo playing the type of game and want something different :D

I really had a builder game itch to scratch recently but then played one a whole lot when I liked it better than I thought I would, and now I’m done with builders for a while.

It’s been a while since I’ve done a pet collector type of game like Temtem. I mean I dabble in Pokemon Masters but it’s really not the same (like many mobile games, you don’t go out and play to try and collect monsters but only pay to roll to get different ones).

I’ve played a lot of character collectors on mobile where you pay for the characters and get them through Gacha systems but not a real Pokemon like game where you can go out and capture them yourself.

The last actual capture type game I played was long ago, a game that never went out of Early Access and was canceled before release. It actually was pretty nice, but the devs had a lack of content issue and canceled it before giving it a chance (it was a big studio though I forget who it was now, was years ago).

Well i’ll throw in a bit more cash to make it worth it and you can even keep a game key out of it since i think i see you get free 2x game keys with it?

Just think on it for Tuesday because i’ll paypal you money through friends and family 100%.

If the servers sound stable on the 21st, I’m probably going to pick it up. I just like playing games on the pc for whatever reason, especially with persistence in a shared world. Nothing against the switch its fine, although still waiting on my metroid prime trilogy Nintendo….

I’m keeping my eye out on this one. I like the monster collecting genre, and I’d like to see more games do well in it.
