The Daily Grind: Are there MMOs you can’t admit you’re not playing any more?

You may leave school, but it never leaves you.

I’m still playing Final Fantasy XI! No, really, I am. Sure, I haven’t logged into the game in… well… months, at least. Maybe a year. But I’m still playing it! I insist that I’m still playing it despite all the evidence to the contrary, including the fact that after swapping to a new computer last year I still don’t have it reinstalled. But my subscription is still running, so… when I have some time, really, I’ll… er…

All right, so we all know that I’m an idiot, but I can’t be the only person who is in a place of being unwilling to admit that this game is no longer in my rotation. It usually involves a game you dearly love, one that you realize you just don’t have time to play but also one you don’t want to… admit you lack the time for. So are there MMOs you can’t admit you’re not playing any more? Or are you better about being honest with yourself?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Ysayle was right

Haven’t really been playing anything. Social anxiety been riding too high.

Thirty… thousand? I was feeling guilt and a bit of regret that I’ve apparently played Warframe for a little over two thousand hours across the last seven years. O.O

There aren’t really any MMOs that I admit that I *am* playing any more. I log into STO to do the daily tasks for the events. Mostly because it doesn’t take too long and even the ones that require the hateful Task Force missions are scaled back to be relatively easy. And I collect stuff and want to have all the things, even if I’m probably never going to use them.

I was playing Warframe a fair amount, but that’s down to once a week or so since the last few updates. Empyrean was rushed out imbalanced, buggy and broken so they could announce it was launching at an event. I wonder how that worked out for them. And the “Liches” update was frankly an even bigger mess. :(

That’s pretty much it for online games I still play even occasionally. Everything else is stuff like Space Engineers, or Conan Exiles or even Ark sometimes. Where there is a single player offline mode and my stuff will stay exactly where I left it until I have time / interest in playing again. I honestly can’t imagine how people play Ark or Conan online, and have to log in almost every single day just to keep their pets/companions from starving and their home from deleting itself. :(

RIFT, I can finally admit, but even in 2019 I may have been hesitant, and in 2017-18 I may have denied. Last I played regularly was Nightmare Tide though.

GW2 I can admit I barely played, but with a good friend companion I’m up for trying.

Secret World I can also finally admit I’m not playing anymore, but its tenuous. Like, all they need to do is a good story update and I’ll be in again, maybe buying some pack of something.

SWTOR I’ll deny I don’t play anymore, given I have played a few times recently, but am I a ‘SWTOR player’? Eh, that will depend.

WoW Classic I will deny I’m not playing anymore until the patch cycle is through and I still haven’t returned. Yes, I said I’ll stop playing due to controversies, but I still eye it.

So I guess I’ll count WoW Classic and maybe SWTOR.

Ah right, I suppose ESO too? Its a game I do ‘return to’ over and over, but just to do starter quests because I’m not happy with either my laptop or desktop PC’s performance with it. The opening load times alone drive me off. So yeah, I’ll keep saying I play ESO though I never actually PLAY it.

The only MMO I play now is Eden Eternal on a private server now. I just have had enough of all the big-name MMO’s. Found a really great guild in Eden too. Also went back to Morrowind single player modded up and it’s a blast.

SWTOR and WoW Classic. “Not that I do not want, but right now I have this and that…” You, most certainly, know how it goes.

Well… I’m not playing ESO at the moment, because my computer broke last year. Can’t afford to pay for repairs. But, I’m definitely going to play it again whenever I have the money to fix my PC or buy a new one.

Meanwhile…I have Villagers and Heroes on my phone, and I’ve been playing a lot of that.

I really want to hit level 20 in DDO so I can use Epic Destinies which I paid for. Don’t know why my fighter is stuck at level 17 I have all the expansions and enough content to hit it. I just got really bored.
