Star Citizen’s roadmap moves and removes various weapons, vehicles, and features

...almost like a game that's actively developing

24

Star Citizen is in active development, so things are going to change and shift around. That said, the most recent roadmap update has had a pretty surprising number of things in the “moved or removed” section.

A fair number of things are being shuffled to update 4.0, such as several weapons, the repair/refuel/restock kiosk, improvements to death animations, and the first version of a cover system and different weapon types in FPS combat. After that, the list is full of temporary removals in the face of shifting development priorities. Among these removals are dynamic missions that generate along QT routes and as a result of economic changes, the Cutlass Blue, expanded pilot and turret gunner roles, and the economy display terminal among other features. The Esperia Prowler has also been pushed back to release as part of update 3.9.

There have been some additions to the roadmap as well, such as ship system consequences for attempting ship combat at high speeds, the option for criminal players to surrender without being killed, improved interactions with the environment, and better ship AI pathfinding and collision avoidance. These features are also planned for alpha 3.9.

All of the details for what’s coming (and what’s not) are outlined in the forum post.

I admit I am constantly unsure/confused about the actual state of this game. It seems to exist/not exist simultaneously.

I put in a bunch of time yesterday, had a blast

but there’s a lot that needs to be done to fulfill the vision

maybe its like a quantum thing, or a zenlike paradox

They don’t mind releasing a new ship instead of oh you know..putting all your resources into places that need it

They’ve made so much new money the past 3 months it’s ridiculous. Right now is their strongest funding period ever. No release date, no guarantee of a finished product. I think the world is saying, “fuck it” and throwing in the towel. How could so many people be so wrong?

When people see amazing tech and product being made, want it to succeed and thus support it, what exactly they are wrong about?

Feels good, doesn’t it?

it feels good to play the game and have hope for something better than the rest of the corporate shills are hawking

but if you guys get solid feels from bashing well, I hope you have as much fun as I do playtesting

Uhh…where did Mr. Schlag’s editorial go that this was supposed to be a part of!? I’m going to start taking screens of them or even snag them so I can repost as part of my context in future! /grrr >.<

I think I trust CIG road maps as much as I trust the Chinese governments official figures about the coronavirus .

What’s there to trust or not trust? It’s just a road map. It’s their current plans. Plans can change, and likely will. You act as if they have no right to change course once they release a roadmap. My suggestion: decaf. It’s really not a big deal.

I think the criticism is that these road maps aren’t nor have they ever been accurate. You’d think after this many years they’d figure out how to make their goals stick but they don’t. I’m of the mind that the road maps are just for show and aren’t indicative of what the studios actual goals are because they’ve never been accurate.

I mean heck, they sell in game currency for real money, have a cash shop, and a subscription to a true alpha. It’s like a more expensive, more shady version of BDO and that’s saying something.

More shady and less of a game. SC fans tend to say how the game is already playable but ANY other MMO with such short gameplay loop and tons of bugs would be destroyed by players. ESO, for example, had hundreds of hours of gameplay but it wasn’t polished enough and it had quite a lot of serious gamedesign mistakes (veteran levels, no level-scaling, faction lock, etc). And yet it nearly died because of the bad press and even worse reviews. Yet somehow bare bones of SC are constantly being called “a playable game” worth of all those money and support. Funny how low standards tend to go when it’s your dream on stake.

Tell that to Erin who said 2018’s roadmap was too optimistic and therefore 2019’s will only contain goals that are realistically achievable, only for them to bump content from one quarter to another and deliver far less than they had claimed was possible.

And who asked you for a suggestion? Look, everyone loves a fanboi, but when someone voices a valid opinion you should not feel the need to jump all over it.

What exactly would an invalid opinion be? Nothing I’m guessing. Therefore by your standard nothing should be challenged or rebutted because it’s all valid opinion, right? Logical fallacies and ad hominem attacks aside, the fact of the matter is a roadmap is not and never was an iron clad guarantee for any game. Read it, shrug, and move on with life. That’s all I’m suggesting. The fact this thread garnered as many responses as it did is laughable to me considering how inconsequential the subject matter is. Oh CIG missed another date on their roadmap. THEY LIED! LIIIIIIIIIIIED! You guys should get your blood pressure checked. Half you guys who regularly post on the SC articles sound like you’re about to pop an aneurysm. D Smart in particular.

First, never trust CIG’s statements. They are all marketing. If it’s not on the server, it’s just talk.

Remember back when they missed their shooter deadline and Roberts said that Star Marine would be coming out in two weeks, a month at the most? A year later, they manage to get something out.

Lying or clueless management? My bet’s on both.
