Star Trek Online: Tenth anniversary giveaways, lifetime sale, and story leak

Outer space has never been so active as it is right now thanks to Star Trek Online’s 10th anniversary. Cryptic is handing out daily freebies and a Star Trek Picard uniform to any takers as well as offering a 50% off lifetime subscription sale.

But the most interesting development might be the one not officially announced yet. Thanks to STO_Leaks on Twitter, images from an upcoming featured episode named Measure of Mortality were posted. What’s interesting is that these images seem to confirm the appearances of both Sonequa Martin-Green (Michael Burnham) and Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine) who are currently starring in Star Trek series (Discovery and Picard, respectively).

Is Star Trek Online back on your radar? Read up on why we think it’s one of the best value MMOs out there and worth playing in 2020. And when you’re done with that, settle in for a 10th anniversary interview with Lead Producer Jarrod Fisher!

The pricing…dear God…the pricing is outrageous. Nine ship bundles of brand new ships from three factions have been less than half this price. WTF are they doing?

Randomly loaded this back up this weekend now that I’m sorta “done” with this PoE league. Was SUPER tempted to get the lifetime sub…still am, but I don’t think I want to drop that kinda dough on the game or not.

I’ll tinker around more this week, I need to try to remember how to play the damn game first, which I’ve probably never really known how to do well to begin with.

Newer content sure looks higher quality though. More voice lines, better animations (well…for the game, they’re still rough), better cutscenes etc. I’m kinda excited to poke around and see what’s changed over the years.

The Deep Space Nine expansion they did was a joy to experience if you’re fond of DS9 – they got a truly remarkable number of the original cast to reprise their roles as voice-actors, and I had an absolute blast.

I think I saw some of it (before the rework?) and it was nice.

I kinda want to make a new character and start over from scratch…for like the 7th time, but really take my time to explore and pay close attention to the storyline. That and spend more time poking around for ST fanservice stuff, which the game is damn packed with.

You can start a TOS character – they get a set of missions set back in that era, and then end up in The Future(tm) with everyone else, and while there’s not a lot of missions they, too, are a delight for a Trek fan.

What I didn’t like about the TOS faction was the limited character racial selection. Doing Discovery Starfleet instead also lets you start in the past (though a different one) and at least lets you pick Alien which lets you do a lot of cool interesting looks and things.

I don’t get why they didn’t allow Alien in TOS Starfleet. Also in the original Star Wars lore, Caitians were serving with Kirk, so I don’t get why they aren’t allowed as a TOS race either. Though I understand that STO is its own special timeline, and Caitians could have integrated later in their timeline. Leaving out Aliens is a pretty big thing though.

Discovery characters do have some different graphics for certain things like beaming and some of the warping and things. But some people will like that more, and I also would think it’s worth it to get to do the “whatever I want” Alien character designs. If you’re happy with being a Human, Tellarite, Andorian or Vulcan that’s great, go TOS. But for me, none of those races work in the long run to be a happy player.

Checking out the Romulan storyline is also extremely cool. I know that it didn’t continue long term and they just merge into one of the other factions later, but it is super worth creating one to go through their story.

Yes they could had added TOS Klingons and Romulans as well since they did play an important role during TOS. Of course that would means they should had made episodes for them too

Went there and checked, so far all leaked ships(posted there a bit after you placed this article) are Federation ships. Unfortunately I have high suspicions the anniversary will mostly be very one sided but I am waiting to see if cryptic changes their ways. I wouldnt mind if most things were for the most populated(logical since rest are neglected) side but you got to value all your players.

Thanks for the tip, with a warning: there may be a fairly large visual spoiler for Discovery S3 there.

and yes they just posted about ships, notice all the shapes are from federation ships even if initially they reveal the first two, you can see the rest as shadows and its definitely Federation ships

not the one i was talking about, but I got my timeline messed up anyway and it almost certainly isn’t a spoiler.

So the Picard tie in is a only a uniform or am I missing something?

Star Trek Picard had an excellent start to it’s season in my opinion. I keep looking for a time distortion so I can jump ahead and see the rest.

Patrick Stewart is a national treasure and I am so happy he decided to go back to Star Trek to reprise his role as Jean-Luc for a final voyage or two into deep space.

based on what he said we can expect more than what is leaked so far, I just guess seven of nine is voyager representation and burnham is discovery’s representative in that story.

They pretty much did the same thing when Star Trek: Discovery launched (IE – the first thing they gave was the uniform because that’s all they really had from the trailers and pre-launch marketing blitz).

The updated 7 of 9 model is directly out of the San Diego Comic Con trailers from 7 months ago.

Cryptic is getting very little in the way of advance info on any of the new series being produced. CBS is basically saying – “Yeah DON’T do any stories involving >X<"…and that's about it.

They've said as far as stuff like ships and sets, etc. – "We see them at the same time you guys do…"

So, like happened with ST:Discovery – I would not expect to see real direct Star Trek: Picard storyline tie ins occur in STO until after its first Season has concluded, and it's second season started.

Wow. That looks like an Excalbian from the TOS episode Savage Curtain. Lore buffs will be happy.

The video with the password shows who’s been transmitting the messages – and it’s the Excalpian recreation of Abraham Lincoln from the TOS S3 episode – “The Savage Curtain” – which is the same episode that screencap of the Excalpian you’ve posted comes from.
