ZeniMax says Update 25 includes planned performance upgrades for Elder Scrolls Online

The Elder Scrolls Online has had another moment to check in with performance update details, and it looks like most everything is on track to arrive as promised back in the November update.

Just as a refresher, Update 25 of ESO, which arrives in conjunction with the Harrowstorm DLC, is bringing faster load times for fixtures and characters, improved patching and framerates, and introducing the second phase of behind-the-scenes combat ability improvements in Q1 of this year. In fact, the update in question is currently already available on the PTS.

The next quarter of the year will bring Update 26 and optimizations and stability improvements to servers, another round of framerate improvements including new code to improve character drawing and FX management, and yet another phase of combat ability improvements that focuses on AoE ability performance on the server.

How about some on-the-scenes improvements to combat? Namely not having to animation cancel every. single. ability. It’s just so tedious.

Too tough, and the “Get gud” playerbase loved it… so now you either do or are left out of any instanced content based around that.

It’s one of the things I found I couldn’t stand about the game after beta. The open world was dumbed down to cat on keyboard. The instances were usually okay, but every once in a while tuning was aimed at that good old “Bring min-max to win” and YUCK.

Anything to improve servers would be good, it seems the lag is getting worse over time imo.

That explains why there are only 21 log in rewards this month. Zenimax acknowledging people may take a long time to redownload it.

ESO has a bad patching/install system. I won’t believe any of this update stuff until it’s on live. The game says it needs 87 gigs of free hard drive space to install and people with more than 100 gigs free get the not enough hard drive space message and the game shuts down. They have been complaining about this for years too.

I just reinstalled yesterday after a 6 month hiatus. It required 124gig.

That’s another thing. It will give you different numbers depending on if your a sub.player and you have everything or a f2p player that has just bought expansions.

PTS takes ~15 gig less and adds at least 10-20 FPS, works SO MUCH better it’s unbelievable. Yes, with addons and reshade.

God I hope you’re right about both parts.

Update 25 will require everyone to reinstall the game. It will take up significantly less HD space and the future patching process will be much faster. They have completely re-tooled this for exactly that reason.

It doesn’t. You’ll need only to re-download it and the launcher will do that itself. You don’t have to do anything, just update the game, as usual, it only will take longer.

Love the game but agree 100% with this. Too many games are like this these days. It makes playing anything “big” on an SSD a very dicey prospect: if the required patch space is 150% of the base game size…you need to factor in ridiculous buffers…

I ‘splurged’ a little while back and bought a 1TB SSD when I saw one on sale on Newegg for cheap. I haven’t had troubles with it.

But ESO did just drop a ball there with that last little patch. I went to login not realizing it was patch day, it downloaded something…got a tiny bit in/broke. Then after multiple freezes, any time I tried to do a ‘repair’ with their launcher, it would get to 4% and then literally freeze my computer. Like dead stop frozen, couldn’t move mouse/ctrl+alt+del/alt+tab/anything. After 25 times (Yes, I’m one patient SOB) I said screw this and deleted the whole game/uninstalled/re-installed….it took like 5-7 more hours to download it all again/re-install/patch up…all of it to learn that wasn’t even an actual patch/update…it was just some ‘addition’ to their ToS which included some really skeevy wording about them doing profiles on each of us, and some picture files in ToS…literally pictures of their legal papers included in the file/thing you’re ‘digitally signing’…all of which likely wouldn’t hold up in court anyway!

I was so pissed I didn’t even play the rest of that day.

Edit : Also, I tried to sign up for their forums, and learned you need an invitation, so I got on my account, and applied for one, and they haven’t sent one.

If I’m being honest with myself, I probably won’t get around to checking in on the game until later this year, so I should probably just uninstall it now since the patching system update will basically create a fresh install anyway (and smaller!).

I hate to be looking past these long needed updates already, but I really hope they can tighten up the graphics on level… all of the levels. Around now would be the right time to be preparing for fancier graphics with the new consoles coming this year.

I really hope some visual enhancements as well. The shadow and vegetation draw distances are abysmal… Outdoor light could need a rework aswell.
