RuneScape outlines a number of updates made to mining and smithing

You really think all those swords and shields and pieces of plate armor just appear in the world of Gielinor? Actually, yes, yes they kind of do, but some of that stuff is a result of the sweat-beaten brow of the RuneScape miner and smithy, and both of those in-game vocations have seen some changes as of yesterday.

For one thing, mining is now far more reliant on stamina, with players dealing less mining “damage” to a rock — as low as 20% — when their stamina is at zero. There are still rocks that can be mined without burning stamina, however, such as red sandstone, Arc crablets, and seren stones. Seren stones, incidentally, are seeing their HP increase to 2,000.

On the smithing side of things, improvements are being made to the way smithable items disassemble into components for Invention. Soon, each bar used to smith an item will be worth four Invention parts or components when you break it down. Additionally, elder rune equipment now has a higher chance of breaking down into components instead of parts. All of these adjustments to part and component drop rates also now means that the Breakdown perk’s activation chance has been adjusted down to a flat 0.8% per rank.

The weekly update also goes over the usual laundry list of topics, including an extended Double XP weekend on February 21st, another set of patch notes that are full of fixes, and the usual alerts for Twitch Prime goodies and livestream timing.
