WRUP: Complete works of Ozymandias to look upon and despair edition

  • Now That’s What I Call Music (Ancient Societies Edition)
Please note that at the time he created it, it was not tagged as “Ancient Societies Edition” but rather as “Ozymandias Private Reserve.” The music in question was published in pamphlet form and was decided upon by Ozymandias himself. He did not write it.
  • Animorphs (Ancient Societies Edition)
Again, it is important to note that the subtitle was not there when Ozymandias wrote these, or at least some of them. Ozymandias wrote books 1-3, 5, 8, 13-17, and 22 himself; he co-wrote books 4, 7, 18-20, and 23. The other books were not his work.
  • Superman (Egypt)
Actually wholly unrelated to the later DC Comics character, this version of the character threw hippos at people.
  • The Transformers (Egypt)
Ozymandias personally designed and sold over 200 transforming toys. They were widely hated, as the transformations in question were, for example, “stone slab lying flat” to “stone slab standing upright.” He did design the first Decepticon symbol, though. (The Decepticons in this version were opposed by the heroic Hawkbots.)
  • What Are You Playing
Yeah, he’s been ghost-writing this for a while, most weeks. Wanted to give him a week off, you know?

Bonus question: What streaming services are you subscribed to right now?

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): There’s good meat up on Rori, which means I’ve got to get into Star Wars Galaxies Legends and get some. My husband did ask me whether I was killing all the nightspiders and eating their meat. “No,” I said indignantly. “I’m killing all the nightspiders and then feeding their meat to my wealthy, loyal customers in food.” It’s different. Video games!

I know we’ve got subs to Netflix and the Mouse House for the kids, and my husband still keeps Spotify. Gonna be honest, I don’t use any of them much, so if it were up to me, we wouldn’t have any of them. Oh, technically we have Twitch Prime by default, too.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): Pretty standardized answer from me: Lots of RP stuff in Final Fantasy XIV and continued running around in Black Desert Online. I’m also thinking of making a dip into Path of Exile, though that isn’t a given. Really, none of my WRUP plans are most of the time.

I’m only subscribed to Netflix, and even that’s more for my husband’s benefit than my own. I’m stubbornly refusing to subscribe to other streaming services as one of the last holdouts in silent protest of companies breaking up TV series and movies into pieces, even though the market is clearly doing that anyway. Also I just don’t watch much TV anymore.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Some antics in FFXIV, I’ll be doing my best to remember to do Star Trek Online anniversary dailies, and otherwise… there’s some stuff in my queue to play for reviews and I really should actually pick up Fire Emblem: Awakening. I keep meaning to, but…

Right now, my wife and I actually have a pile of subscription services with Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Amazon Prime. I also really figure I should get in on the CBS thing for Star Trek and the Twilight Zone. I keep thinking about dropping some of them, but then I find out that something good is now on Prime or whatever and it just renews for another year.

Samon Kashani (@thesamkash): This week’s all about Guild Wars 2 and ArcheAge Unchained. I’ll be running through the story update more and getting one last feel for the combat before the big update that is coming soon.

I’m currently subscribed to Netflix and HBO. HBO might need to go though now that I’ve watched the shows I enjoyed there.

Tyler Edwards: I’m presently splitting my attention between Warcraft III: Reforged and Star Trek Online. Doing the Night Elf campaign in the former and anniversary stuff in the latter. It’s so nice to go back to a time when Night Elves were scary and fascinating in equal measure, instead of neglected and watered down in equal measure. Meanwhile STO’s anniversary mission is a surreal fever dream onslaught of fan service, and I am here for it.

Bonus question: Crave TV, which those of you outside of Canada probably haven’t heard of. It’s not great, but it’s the only way to watch Picard online here in Canuckistan, and there was not a chance of my missing that.

Pierre, patron: A few busy weeks at work and I haven’t advanced my The Last of Us playthrough as much as I’d like. I will try to speed up and do better this weekend.
I have also bought Kentucky Route Zero, now that the final chapter is out. As with any episodic game, I generally wait for the complete game to be out before playing. I read so many good things about this one, I’m eager to see for myself if it suits me. If I have some time left, I will also go through a few quests in The Elder Scrolls Online. Finally, with the Terminator event that started this week, I’m really tempted to play Ghost Recon Breakpoint, but you know, time… may be just a short session to chill off, as it’s a very arcade-y TPS/FPS.

For the bonus question: I’m subbed to Netflix and Amazon Prime Video for my share of fine TV Shows (most of them US or UK, I must admit French TV shows are generally terrible :/). As I don’t watch TV anymore, I replaced it by watching gaming streams on Twitch and I’m subbed to 5 Twitch channels I enjoy.

And you, what are you playing this weekend MOP readers ? Let us know in the comments. Cheers ! <3

AI Dungeon, though, have you tried it? I’ve done some navel-gazing therein.

Currently subscribed to no streaming services.

Taking a break from mmo’s and been playing me some Dragonage inquisition (maybe do 2 after … already did 1 lol). Then maybe some fallout4. I do plan to go back to ESO at some point but then there’s also Secret World reboot …. so many choices now that I have a system that will play them …
HBO, Netflix and Crave … I was making my way through the expanse when it got pulled off crave and onto prime …. dang! Prime’s got a bunch of shows I want to watch but I cant add any more subscriptions (game ones either) right now.

I’ve been playing Wolcen, plays a lot like Diablo 3 how ever it has better graphics, customization characters instead of classes, great cut scenes, better voice acting than most games I’ve played.

Can’t speak on the full suite of features yet until Feb 13 but from what I can see I’m impressed, has a lot of that old fashioned Blizzard polish.

I have been playing the tests of Wolcen for a long time. It was felt pretty good, but there just not a lot there at the time of course. It had housing at one point, but it was removed – maybe it will return.

I’ve been grinding away merrily in Trove this week. As I’ve grown sick and tired of free-to-play shenanigans, I’ve also been playing modded Oblivion. Not much to add other than that.

My wife loves her TV, so we subscribe to YouTube TV. My kids and I are both video game fans, and everyone in the house is a bibliophile, so no one else really watches any TV. Cancelling cable reduced my monthly Charter bill from $220 to $55 – and that includes the phone line. We also have Amazon for the free shipping, but rarely use their video streaming. I take books out of the Kindle library all the time though.

Finished The Outer Worlds and feel legitimately a little mad in a way a single player game hasn’t made me since Dragon Age 2. Right when you hit Byzantium you can *feel* the budget run out and then all those other planets on the map? yeah ignore them its time for the ending where you ride 3 elevators up a mostly empty cylindrical room to a final boss thats one of the byzantium gardening pots with the model size set to 130%, or in my case you hack a monitor out side and turn it off and get a “now we saved everything!” ending and credits. I have not gone from “wow what a nice opening and what a neat art style” to “all that boring combat for this? what a rip off” in like ten years. It has some good ideas but man it feels like so much gushing praise for this had to have been purely to spite bethesda over fallout 76’s recent release at the time because this is just a case of dropping the ball halfway or actually running out of money because good lord i was frustrated as the credits rolled.

After that hot mess i’m redownloading The Division 2 to give it one more short with its final year 1 ‘return to new york’ expansion. If this can’t grab me then i don’t think the developers can. Maybe its just time for Ubisoft to ask themselves if they want to make tacticool games with the tom clancy name on or they are just using a dead man to shill live service games but at least in rainbow six seiges case as esports streamer b8 its making them money so they can excuse it there. In this case i feel “wow this purple does 20 extra shootbang!” is not quite understanding the old doorkickan and cornercheckan ethos that made clancy games a giant in the 90’s

and aside from games Games Workshop released “Wrath of the Everchosen” today. The first narrative campaign book for Age of Sigmar 2nd edition. Its every chaos army getting tonally different reworks vs skeleton constructs and i’ve got a LOT of new stuff like chip medium and rusting agents to make some blight kings look all pirates of the carribean davey jones style for the “drowned men” nurgle faction.

Right after i finish up with the demonic plaguedrones for the bog demons i have to accompany them.

This week: Several MMO based milestones have been met in my life, thanks to Blade & Soul…

1) The first MMO outside of WoW where I had more than one character reach max level.
2) The first MMO where I had a male toon reach max level.
3) The first MMO where all my characters will reach max level, and likely before the this weekend is out…

…and this was already on top of:

4) First MMO where a character reached max level outside of WoW.
5) First MMO where a secondary character reached max level outside WoW.

The game is on a Lyn roll for me! o.O

Also this week: Yes, I am also still playing WoW Retail. Still avoiding the new greifer gear like the plague though. >.<

Bonus Answer: I don't stream, I pour. O.o

I mentioned last week that I was re-playing the single-player RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II — the patched and restored version this time (available via Steam) — and an unusual thing happened …

I’m one of those people who will remember a movie, a TV show, or a game that I’ve experienced before after I’ve spent a little time on it again.

It’s why I rarely replay games, even the ones I adore, because after I re-play them for a bit, pretty much everything about the story and the plot comes back to me.

But I’ve been playing KotOR II this week, and it’s almost like playing a brand new game with retro graphics — I remember almost nothing about this game.

I remember some of the character names, and I remember that the original released ending was an absolute mess, and a huge disappointment to me, but almost everything else, so far, seems “new”.

I dimly recall that I powered through the game when it was released in early 2005 on PC, because I was a HUGE fan of the original KotOR game.

Maybe I skipped a bunch of content on my first play? Maybe the plentiful release bugs kept me out of much of the game at that time? Maybe I was just so unhappy with the release state of the game, that I stopped paying attention and just speed-ran through to the so-called conclusion?

I honestly don’t know, but as above, this is weird for me. I don’t forget games I’ve played when I re-play them. Maybe somebody used a Jedi Mind Trick on me? Who knows?

Anyway, I’m having more fun than expected. I’m playing a female character this time around, partly because the Bioware “Old Republic” story canon says that the Jedi Exile (this character) was female.

Fun all around, even though the fact that I can’t remember any of this creeps me out!

You can read about the debacle that got KotOR II shipped waaay too early back in 2005 on Wikipedia HERE, if you’re at all curious.

Hope everybody is reflecting light and resisting gravity! :-) Take care of yourselves, and each other, please. It’s how we’ll get through.

Love to yas, my friends!

Bonus Answer — Because the other people here love their TV as entertainment, and I’m a science-fiction and fantasy fan, we have all the major stream things: Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+. We also have the local provider of the new Star Trek stuff. It’s a tad ridiculous, but it’s still better and cheaper than a traditional cable TV bundle, so it’s all good.

Reader
Sray

I cancelled my cable TV about three years ago, but around this time last year I calculated how much I was spending on streaming services versus what my basic cable package cost me, because at the time I was worried that I might be spending more on entertainment without cable than I was with it. The results were shockingly different from what I expected.

After calculating the combined year round costs of all the streaming services I was subbed to at the time (Netflix, Amazon Prime, Funimation Now, HiDive, and Crunchyroll), and adding in Disney+ at a theoretical cost equal to that of Netflix, I found that I was still spending $100 CDN less per year than just paying for basic cable (thus saving even more as Disney+ hadn’t even launched yet). With Disney+ going away for now (I’ll be back when there’s more shows for grown ups), and me deciding to alternate between Crunchyroll and HiDive subs, I’m saving over $300 CDN a year, and having way more entertainment that I’ll theoretically actually watch available to me. Oh, and that’s on top of having three times faster Internet too, as I upgraded that to the top tier package when I cancelled the cable TV.

I hear you, my friend! It’s kind of astonishing how much “filler crap” cable bundles charge too much money for, on the regular.

I’m surprised that the big cable companies don’t seem more distressed about the way streaming has been cutting into their traditional profits.

Maybe that says something about how much excess profit the cable companies have been raking in all these years — they don’t even notice a decline yet? I dunno.

Glad you’re getting much more for much less, Sray, :-)

Be well!

When i played SWTOR for few months i kept watching Swtorista videos, she is a good youtuber if you don’t know her, she have videos for armor sets and always refer to KOTOR and its characters, made me want to play the game, happy i can find it in steam, maybe this summer?

  • Wizards Unite – My bonus quest wants me to open TEN portkeys!? DIAF… Okay, I might open several tomorrow on a trek..
  • Magia Record, Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Another Eden, Magikarp Splash, Alter Ego, Arknights – Dailies/logins.
  • Last Cloudia – Valentine’s Event and its actually somewhat generous.
  • SWTOR – Partner and I did a bit more Tython and I moved ahead from him a little, but only to be there to help him, I swear.

The big thing I played with was Geforce NOW. I was in the beta but concerns about latency/video quality and data caps kept me away, but the quality is actually not too shabby and I remembered I don’t have data caps anymore – doh.

So I have went around my libraries that Geforce would allow me, and got to experience many of my games/free games on ‘max settings’. This included Frostpunk, Destiny 2, Path of Exile, Apex Legends, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online (this one was weird as I thought max settings would look a little nicer?). But really, I want EA to get more on this or release their own service because I want my Dragon Age, Mass Effect, (prospectively) Anthem, and SWTOR to look better while I put off replacing my hardware.

Thanks for the info on Geforce NOW. It’s a slightly different take on streaming since you already own the games rather than buying then anew on a streaming platform (as in Stadia).

To answer: partner is subbed to Netflix for his fam and that’s not going away. I’m subbed, for now, to Amazon Prime. We took advantage of Disney+ and Crave trials recently. And I’m in Youtube Premium trial just to listen to the latest Dem debate while outside.
