Shroud of the Avatar updates Bard skills, gives $6999 backers a new house

Yah gotta getchaself some mawble cawlumns

A new architecture style has arrived to Shroud of the Avatar and the first ones to get their look at it are those who bought in to the $6,999 Lord of the Isle bundle. The most recent Avatar’s Update newsletter provides a peek at this new mansion and architecture style, which can best be described as “I like white bricks.”

This opulent new castle is available to be ogled at in Hometown in-game if one is curious to peek at it further, or you can wait until this new architecture style arrives to other home sizes later. Either way, it’s a whole lot of house and a whole lot of white bricks.

On the more gameplay-related side of things, there are a number of new Bard skills up for display along with their fancy new icons. As one would expect, many of these Bard skills are all about support, from healing to revealing hidden enemies to buffing the party. There are also a couple of AoE skills out there, too, for those who like to damage enemies with the pure power of harp rock.

The newsletter also has the usual roundup of Vault items and the like, while the game itself has gotten a patch that’s primarily focused on QA. Patch notes for that have been shared online for those who want those details. Full notes from the most recent update, Release 74, are also up on the site.

Interesting thing about Catnip Games and the item featured in this article.

Catnip Games was registered as an LLC on January 9, 2019.

These bundles came out about the same time.

Later on, the “confusion” about who was CEO.

Quite the picture that is starting to come together.

Chris – I am not the CEO! Reddit is making that up.

A few minutes later after evidence from the Texas SOS is shown to him – Umm, whoops, I guess I am CEO, but it doesn’t mean anything! Months later Port sells game to Chris – Nowwwww I’m CEO!

Chris – Do not pretend or misrepresent what you read from Seedinvest. You don’t have any business sense!

A few minutes later after evidence from Seedinvest. Appears their message contains multiple false statements including that they have tried contacting me.

Same pattern – infer that people are liars until proven otherwise, and even after getting busted do not apologize.

No wonder all the people left this game! The owner belittles its players, yet people continue to give him money.

Just more worthless digital shinies for the sunk-cost fallacy crew.

I can’t imagine doing anything else with thousands of dollars other than spending them on a showy virtual house that maybe 30 people will ever see.

I was going to refrain from posting on this to show what Shroud does well enough on its own, but… there’s still more dodgy being done around the game.

“Catnip Games” are still trying to sell off these Lord of the Isle bundles and haven’t removed anything they cannot deliver on, such as the “tour of the Portalarium offices” which no longer exist. That’s right – they haven’t even bothered to change the company name over and this is still being copy+pasted into the updates.

Part of the “massive” Update 74 notes (archived link):

As one of the biggest and earliest supporters of Episode 2 you will be granted the largest lot deed in the land (Castle), the title Lord (or Lady) of the Isle, a tour of the Portalarium Offices, and dinner with the game leaders including Lord British himself! Only 24 of these unique bundles will be sold!

Complete List of Rewards:

Lord of the Isle Place Anywhere Castle Lot Deed: Tax Free Forever (when placed in a POT) and Tax Free for 1 Year (when placed outside of a POT). Placeable on water as well as land!
Title: Lord of the Isle or Lady of the Isle
Unique Lord of the Isle Home (to be revealed later)

PLUS Choice of any 1 House currently available in the store
Castle Basement currently available in the store of your choice
Castle Wall Set currently available in the store of your choice (with enough for Castle Lot)
Unique Lord of the Isle Dungeon Room (to be revealed later)
140,000 Crowns
999 Bank Slots
Pick 12 Prosperity Tools
2 Unique in-game items (to be revealed later)
Early Access to Episode 2
Episode 1 Box and map signed by the team
1 hour one on one with Chris for design discussion (via video-conference)
One real silver ring crafted personally by Lord British: Numbered 1 – 8
In-game version of the Lord British ring: Numbered 1 – 8 (including a place-able decoration version)
Tour of Portalarium Offices
Fine dinner and drinks with Lord British, Darkstarr, & Atos at a location TBD in Austin or NYC.
NOTE: Digital items that are currently available will begin delivery as soon as Release 62 (Jan 31). Other items will be delivered at a future date TBD.

NOTE: Travel costs NOT covered by Portalarium for Tour & Dinner.

Linked in the notes is the $6,999 bundle, but still there are the $7,499 and $7,999 bundles available!

I could snark on the deliverability of the remaining physical items, but people should know to expect the phoned-in digital in-game replacements by now when Not Portalarium couldn’t for years deliver something as simple as a signed book.

I’m sure they’ll replace this with an in game pixel ring too.

Oooh, and just in time for the second ring slot to be implemented so you can wear TWO pixel rings!

Second Ring Slot: Characters can now equip 2 rings at once! (Patched in during R73)

Yep, again there’s bits from other updates in the current patch notes.

Wow No wonder people say this game is only played by “Whales”! With in-game items like that you really are a mega supporter for pixel crack.

That is… a couple of gaming computers AND a vacation. For digital stuff. People be crazy, but I guess when the wealth and income gaps are so large there will always be those with money to burn. :(

I could rent a vacation house for a month in summer in one of my favorite beach cities and invite lots of family and friends. Even if I were Bill Gates rich, I wouldn’t throw my money away.

That how I see this stuff. Why?

You could be a champion to a local charity. You could be a mega-tier donor for a year for some local civic group – becoming well known in those circles.
You could buy an ultra rare comic book sure to appreciate in the next decade.
You could build a porch.
You could buy 110 shares of Activision – helping to insure gaming will go downhill from this point forward.
You could buy your spouse something lavish – a waste – but unforgettable.
You can buy a box of contraband rifles – the start of a fresh revolution.

Or an eHouse on a game that won’t be here in two years.

You could be a massive patron of your neighborhood samba school. Lifetime in the big carnival show I’d guess.

Yeah, it was more about how absolutely odd this stuff is from my end too. People have… shown that they will do these things though, so for now we are stuck with it. :(

That is one ugly $7,000 house.

Take that $7K and put it into a down payment on a real house that you can turn a profit on in the future? Nah, buy a digital house in a failed game that you’ll never make your money back on.
