Blade & Soul patches in the third specialization for the Assassin along with Lyn Assassins

Yes, you can now make a Lyn Assassin in Blade & Soul. If you have a burning need to do an in-game version of that seminal children’s classic The Littlest Contract Killer, well, you now have that option. Of course, even those more experienced in the art of assassination will have something to look forward to with this patch, as it also adds in the new Way of the Phantom specialization for the class allowing you to summon spectral armies to slay your target.

The patch also introduces the Blade & Soulmate 2020 event, the annual Valentine’s Day celebration coming in a bit after the actual holiday has concluded. But isn’t the important factor spreading the love, possibly while hiding in the shadow and using ephemeral forces to end the life of someone else? If that doesn’t sound like love to you, then you clearly weren’t raised on The Littlest Contract Killer as a youth.

It won’t let me play after updating. It says start game then nothing.

This “Shroud of the Assassin Preview” video perfectly illustrates why I’m having a tough time getting into most MMOs. Clicked on it hoping to see some cool gameplay that makes me want to play, instead got a bunch of badly designed and randomly floating UI elements and windows. Granted, they probably just wanted to show the nitty-gritty of… whatever this is, but it’s still funny how even a promotional video for the game can’t make it look good without hiding the UI.

I hope the next generation of MMOs will learn from the rest of the games industry and take a more minimalist approach to UI design.

…or allow the player to customize as such if they want to.

Sure, that can help a little, but it doesn’t really fix the problem. I spend hours and hours optimizing my UI in FFXIV, making stuff as small and compact as I possibly can, and it still takes up at least 30% of my screen space, with health bars and names and icons and text popups all over the place.

There are a few things that could be improved with the UI itself (making more stuff only appear when needed or on mouseover for example), but to really make a difference, the games themselves have to be designed differently from the ground up.

It’s a RPG after all so you should be realistic and don’t complain when there is stuff displayed on Screen.

…but if it becomes distracting, it’s a problem. Then folks are within reason to complain.

UI customization.
But There is a reason why Eve Online has so many tabs with info.

What a strange thing to say. Did you play any normal RPGs lately?
