Shadow Arena’s closed beta test has officially begun – are you trying it out?
Shadow Arena, Pearl Abyss’ one-time battle royale mode for MMORPG Black Desert, officially hits closed beta today as a standalone title.

“Shadow Arena pits 40 players against each other in a ruthless fight to be the last person standing on the battlefield. Players can choose from nine playable characters in the beta, each with their own unique fighting style. To climb to the top of the pack, players must slay monsters and collect loot to upgrade their gear and gain buffs. However, impeccable skill execution and well-timed evasive tactics are critical in securing victory.”

For this leg of the test, Pearl Abyss is introducing a new bare-fist melee fight, Badal the Golden, and new modes too:

“This beta test will include a two-man mode, where a pair of players can team up to combine their skills for engaging tactical battles. There will also be a practice mode for players to learn the basics of the game and test out new tactics with all of the playable characters. In addition, players will be able to host private matches with up to 40 players for a custom game experience.”

This Steam test is set to run through March 8th, so you have a bit of time. You can check out the game yourself by picking up a (free) closed beta key and jumping right in. Console players, you’ll be waiting a bit longer; the game is slated to launch in the first half of 2020 on PC, with console coming “at a later date.”

MOP’s own Stream Team will be checking out the new standalone title this weekend this afternoon, so stay tuned, and in the meantime, check out all our coverage up to now:

I’m counting down the hours ’till I can give this a game a try. Also, Yeonhwa is super pretty to me.

The new version is quite a bit different than it was in BDO. I’m liking it so far, though I both appreciate the removal of and miss the inclusion of the Black Spirit possession mechanics.

Still, I like that they used some of the big signature heroes from Black Desert as a whole. I played it on the EU servers this morning. Will pop over to the NA servers when they pop online this afternoon.

Anyone who isn’t sure should definitely watch MJ stream it today. :)

Not yet, but I’ll be trying it out for a stream or two.

I tried it and it was horrible, just horrible. Like that other game named Hunter’s Arena.

It’s a shame that development time and budget are spent on such garbage.

Saying the game is horrible without explaining why really helps. /s

Nope. Not a fun part of their game. Glad they removed it and good luck to them.

Only interest I had in this was when it was actually in BDO and was a good way for PvPers to progress while doing PvP because other PvP game modes are no longer rewarding.

Not really interesting in the PvP branch of the fantasy cooking-farming-fishing simulator.
