Turn-based tactical MMO Atlantica Online is arriving to Steam March 26

While Atlantica Online, the tactics-minded turn-based MMORPG from Valofe and Nexon, has been around for a fair while globally, it hasn’t made any inroads to Steam. That’s about to change, however, as the game has unveiled a March 26th arrival to the platform.

Just in case you’re unfamiliar with this one, Atlantica Online is a free-to-play title set in “a fantasy-themed alternate history Earth composed of a diverse blend of historical, cultural, allegorical, and mythological elements.” Players can collect over 30 mercenaries to build their fighting force, then take them out on quests, dungeons, or PvP. The title also touts a guild system that allows several guilds to form a nation, customizable housing, and GvG warfare. It also happens to have a pretty good soundtrack as our Jukebox Heroes column showcased last year.

If you’re not keen on directly downloading the game’s launcher and playing it right now, then you can wishlist the title now and simply wait it out for a few weeks. You’ve got options here.

Never could get into the combat of that game, I would take Dofus or Wakfu over this any day of the week even though I don’t play those for the same reason.

It has been a while since I played this game, so things may have changed or I misremember. It is one of those with the korean style equipment upgrade system. Each upgrade attempt is expensive and the probability to succeed gets lower as the equipment is upgraded higher. A mild failure results in a downgrade, and a critical failure results in the item being completely destroyed. This means a lot of farming/grinding to get maxed out equips, or buying insurance (atlas stone) for real money. Insurance doesn’t guarantee a success, rather it prevents the downgrade/destruction on failure. Insurance is still consumed on a success.

I was dumb back then and played despite such issues, but not making a second mistake and going back.

It’s been years since I played this but I had some good fun with it. I didn’t get near endgame though so I can’t speak to that.

Interesting game but unfortunately it is one of the many f2p MMOs ruined by being ridiculously p2w.
