You’re going to have to work to get a home in New World

If you’ve already called the movers to lug your stuff into New World when it (supposedly) launches this spring, you might want to reschedule. According to this week’s dev diary, snagging a house in the game will take a little bit of work: namely, you will need to hit level 20 and cross a certain standing (reputation) threshold for a settlement by doing quests and completing projects.

Once you do that, it’s time to pick out the house that’s right for you. “Houses range in size, features, and cost,” said Amazon Game Studios. “Some houses overlook the center of town, while others have balconies with nice views over the settlement walls. Some houses have exterior areas for decoration, while others simply feature a front or back porch.”

Homes are more than just places to decorate (although they are that, too). Players can use them for fast-travel recall, stock them with pets, and build up buffs by displaying trophies in their abodes. The game also has a “behind the scenes” competition going with each house spot in a settlement, with the the winner being the default house that’s displayed when others run by that area.
