Chronicles of Elyria kicks off its Settlers of Elyria virtual land auction for a second time

34

Allow us to share a little bit of background on this one: Chronicles of Elyria had first announced an “event” in December of last year that would auction off unclaimed virtual land (that is still yet to be playable) for a set period of time. The so-called Settlers of Elyria event, however, ran into issues with its purchasing portal, which saw the digital land sale postponed. This delay ran beyond the winter holidays and past January, with only a quick word that fixing the event was a “top priority.”

At long last, though, it appears that those issues have been resolved and the land auction is on once more. Players will be able to start buying up Settlements, Counties, and Duchies today at 5:00 p.m. EST all the way through Sunday, April 26th. As before, prices for every domain that is available will drop by 1% each day, up to 45% off on the final day of the event, along with “flash sales” of featured domains that take an additional 10% off every 20 minutes.

There are a variety of specifics and details to comb over, so those interested in becoming “a part of the history of Elyria” will want to read up. And fingers crossed that this auction doesn’t get tripped up. That’d be a real storm.

Can anyone confirm that these clowns once again screwed up the launch and now it’s 2 days later and still lot launched due to bugs?

Just checked. Still down. @Bree Royce

Seems like an interesting title. Aside from New World, I’ve got my eye on this and Ashes of Creation.

However, I just can’t bring myself to purchase virtual items nor virtual land, for games still being developed, and with no clear release date scheduled.

Yet, I recognize this as a clever way to help finance a project.

Saying this game is developing is severely stretching the meaning of the word.

whelp, it’s a good thing I’m not buying virtual land claims then… And leaving the financing to persons with a more… pioneering spirit? ;)

aaaand this is where I shut the door and left the parking lot.

Latest update:

Edit – To be respectful to our UK and EU community members who have been waiting patiently, and staying up late, we’re going to place the map in public read only mode shortly, but we won’t open sales till tomorrow morning PDT.

So, just the irony here:

Hey Folks. We’re not happy with something we are seeing so we are pushing launch two hours to make sure it is not a larger issue.

edit – Another hour. Our wonderful mods found some issues we want to address.

edit – Thank you for your patience, as you can imagine we are working as hard as we can to fix the edge case issues that were identified.

These developers are clowns and anyone who goes and buys this stuff needs a serious head check.

What I fear is that between SC and CoE, new devs are going to be like “Man, we just need to keep makin’ cool vids, blog a little, and have some proof of concept stuff and we’ll be able to sell all SORTS of models, textures, and crap to these gullible buyers.”

I sincerely hope future devs are looking at the response to this nonsense, not just the validation to such a scummy approach that is superficially apparent.

But hey, you only have to land a couple of dumbass whales with more money than sense and you’ve got it made.

Camelot Unchained – don’t leave them out of the mix.

They don’t have any whale program as far as I am aware though.

Give it some time.

There are whale PROGRAMS?

Pretty sure any game that lets you buy stuff could be “supported by whales” regardless if there’s a program to cater to them in particular…

The biggest difference between SC, CU, CF, and CoE is that CoE has nothing playable to show while the other 3 actually does.

Didn’t you see that low-res single-player parkour demo that looked like it was put together with a free UE4 plugin? That’s supposed to be be what they are calling playable content and be available soon.

Like I said, these guys are clowns.

Don’t insult clowns, at least clown serve a purpose.

Highly debatable on CU.

There is a difference, yes, but none of them have a PLAYABLE GAME FOR SALE.

I don’t count alpha combat test demos, model viewers, character creators, etc as anything meaningful. IMO a game shouldn’t even be PUBLICIZED until it has at least that, as proof there’s actually code being written.

But that’s a long, long way from a having a game for sale, and it SHOULD BE miles away from the point at which they open the ingame store: that is colossal bullshittery.

Cool vids?? They can’t even do that.

Can someone who knows more about this title help me out here? Because as far as I can tell, CoE smells an awful lot like a scam to me…

Depends on your definition of a scam. Buyer Beware for sure though.

You’ll spend all day discovering a kickstarter that isn’t a scam. And even then – I’ll prove you wrong.

And thousands exist to prove you wrong. Get over it and yourself.

You should realize now, like that sitting Orange Buffoon, declaring something is very different from proving something. While the former maybe popular with the /tinfoil upvote lot…the latter requires actual evidence. And not just incidental stuff from a few bad apples…but real and tangible proof that the whole /Kickstarter process is one big scam and corrupt as a 3 dollar bill…

…this will in turn, separate you from someone who posts meaningful, compelling criticism (the wheat), from anyone whose just got some axe to grind in the opinion (the chaff). As I am pretty sure a person with indepth intellectualism such as yourself can most certainly do better than this. Just saying.

Reader

Edit/Erratum: …separate you as* someone who posts…proper.

After the incredibly showing of that pre-packaged UE4 parkour system, how could you not want to buy!

That’d be a real storm.

Nice.

Wait, you’re telling me I can get up to 45% off something that has no value and which you can effectively create an infinite supply of? WHAT A DEAL BE STILL MY HEART!

I backed Chronicles of Elyria on kickstarter back in the day, and since then I’ve been mystified by all the weird non game development things they’ve been doing. Please don’t turn into a Shroud of the Avatar style auction hell.
